Tearing Down Frigidaire/Kenmore Portable DW

Well for better or worse looks like one has found a replacement for the defunct Kenmore portable. Being frugal one wants to remove what one can for either future use or perhaps to move on before chucking the thing to the curb.

Have sorted getting the motor out but wonder how does one unhook the internal connections for the Unicouple hoses. It is in great condition and seeing as they cost dear new think it is best to harvest those hoses before trashing the thing.

Should one bother about the timer, push button switches, and so forth?

the unicouple sometimes is attached at the top with a cable tie of sorts.....

you should be able to gain access by opening the door, and removing 3 to 4 screws that hold the top down, and then sliding the top back about an inch, and it should lift off......then you can look down the sides and see where the hoses are coming up through.....some have a metal retaining clip with a screw through the back that you have to remove....it may be covered with cardboard, used as a guide to prevent the hoses from snagging....

Recycling day is Wednesday so should get this done ASAP to shove the thing out to the curb. However am also considering contacting one of those scrapper persons what advertise on CL for "old appliances". Though once one is finished with this DW don't know how much if anything of value will remain. *LOL* Am certain to remove the motor, relay and Unicouple hoses. Pump is already out and in bits as it is shot anyway. Oh am thinking of taking the casters off as well.

I had -

a portable Roper dishwasher. Remove the screws from the plastic hose/power cord housing and the screws that attach the top to the cabinet. Push the top towards the front of the machine and then lift the top off. You will see that a cable tie fastens the hoses to the dishwasher. Remove said fastener.
Tip the dishwasher on its back and you will see the hose connecting to the inlet valve (mine was a 3/4" fitting). Just unscrew the inlet hose, then un-clamp the drain hose.
I cannot believe how expensive those quick connect hoses are ($60+)!

She's Gone!

Kind of got weepy when wheeled the Kenmore/Frigidaire to the curb last night. When one came home from work it was gone along with today's rubbish collection. Don't know if scrappers or DSNY took the old gal, but that is now that.

In the end only took the unicouple, top, and the insulation padding. Was too tired, and it was too hot so was not in the mood to deal with taking the door apart to get at the timer and other bits. Was going to take the water solenoid after undoing the hose connections, but didn't have the proper curved screwdriver to it from underneath. Suppose one could have taken off the lower panel and gone in that way but again just couldn't be bothered. By now water was leaking from the hoses and just wanted to get them out so could mop up the mess and get on.

In the end didn't even bother taking out the motor. Figured since it isn't repairable that included fitting a new stem shaft, so why bother? I mean didn't seem like there would be much interest. Indeed used motors for this unit have been sat sitting on fleaPay that cannot be given away for love nor money.

If and when the GE Mobile Maid goes into service am going to see if one can wrap the insulation blanket around back and sides. This may help (a bit) with keeping the heat and noise inside the machine.
