I am looking to replace my daily drive coffeemaker and was told that the above model was an excellent choice. I would like to know if anyone out her (Louis, from the Netherlands)? has this coffeemaker and if they think it is worth purchasing.

Thanks for your help.

Ray

Technivorm is one of the few manufacturers who still use copper heating elements, which are wonderful compared to aluminum. They're great coffee makers.

Just Up The Street

My nieghbors have had theirs for about a year. It makes fabulous coffee, looks like a scientific coffee maker experiment and makes 8 cups.

I have had this TechniVorm Moccamaster since November and I love it. Makes absolutely superb coffee.

Two small annoyances:

1) There is a twist-on plug for the decanter, which seals it well. You loosen it half-a-turn to pour coffee. The only bad thing is that the decanter can't sit in its housing (as in the picture) with the plug on it. It will bump into the grounds holder. I keep mine in the water well when it's not in use.

2) The flat little platform the decanter sits on comes off every time you lift the coffee maker to move it to a different location. It goes back on easily, but I've read that many Moccamaster owners simply don't use it. You can see it under the decanter in the picture.

I wouldn't trade mine for any other coffee maker. If you're using fresh, good-quality beans, you'll not find a better, richer, flavorful cup of coffee. Never acidic or burnt. And it's built to last. The cord is heavy-duty and has a grounded plug.

Having said that, you can get a great cup of coffee from a Cuisinart for $80. But if you want the Lexus of coffee makers, the TechniVorm is the one you want.

Thanks for much for all of your input. I knew I could count on my club members.

I have two more questions:

1. For those of you that have the stainless thermo model: Does the stainless carafe keep the coffee warm for awhile and can it be washed in the dishwasher/

2. Would you recommend the stainless carafe over the glass one?

Thanks again.

Ray

If you put the plug in the thermos as soon as the cycle is completed, it will keep coffee hot for hours.

I've never put it in the dishwasher. I just put a little soap in it and rinse it out. I'm not a fan of glass carafes, as they need a hot plate to keep the coffee warm. These hotplates usually make the coffee bitter within 15 minutes. I'd go with the thermal carafe.

One trick with thermal carafes is to preheat them with very hot tap water, just before starting the brew cycle. This will extend by at least a few hours, and possibly several hours, the length of time coffee is kept at serving temperature.

Funny!

It's funny that this thread pop up when it did. I have been researching the Technivorm coffee makers for the past couple of days. Might order one this weekend.

Question: Where did you purchase your Moccamaster?

Malcolm: I've ordered coffeemakers from two sources, both of which gave excellent service.

1stincoffee.com----The price is $245 for the KBT741 pictured above.

clivecoffee.com----The price is $265 for the KBT741, but you get four pounds of their great coffee and a box of paper filters thrown in. They're based in Portland, OR.

I ordered my espresso maker from 1st incoffee and my TechniVorm from Clive Coffee. Both places are run by coffee fanatics, and the guy at Clive Coffee will gladly answer questions and tell you more than you ever wanted to know about how to make a great cup.

The NEWCO OCS Is an Alternative to the TechniVorm Moccamaste

A number of months ago "Cooks Illustrated" reviewed coffee makers and lauded the Moccamaster. That led me to an internet search, and I learned about the Newco OCS12 (OCS means Office Coffee System; 12 is the number of cups), which I bought. I am very pleased with the speed of the brewing (1400 watts like the Moccamaster) and the high temperature of the coffee. Also the thermal carafe keeps the coffee hot for hours. There is a special lid that allows the brewed coffee to enter the carafe, and when the brewing stops, the opening closes, helping to retain the temperature. I have wondered why the Newco is not reviewed when the Moccamaster is reviewed, and I guess it is because the Newco OCS is intended for commercial use. Also, the Newco is cheaper than the Moccamaster.

I didn't see any mention of a copper heating element with the Newco, which is probably why it costs less.

Hey Guys...Thanks for all of you input. I have not ordered as of yet. Another site is www.roastmasters.com, they offer 2 lbs. of coffee and free shipping.

Now my cousins husband is Dutch. He was born here but his parents wre from Holland. He travels to this country and many others. I am going to ask him if he could get a better prince in his travels or if I should order it on line.

Thanks Louis. I will order in a few weeks and let you know. I have not heard a bad thing about this machine. I always thought that the thermo carafe would let the coffee get cold. But, I have a Cuisinart Grind and Brew at work at my desk with the themo carafe, and the coffee stays hot till 3pm. I was quite impressed. What I really like is not having that overbrewed, burnt taste that a glass carafe offers. What I have been doing at home for now is brewing in the glass carafe and pouring into a good thermal carafe.

PS: I am not sure where my cousins husbands family is from in Holland, but I will find out. His last name is Krygsman.
