I've had several Frigidaire Flairs through the years, and the one I now have in my kitchen has the "tender-manic" feature. I remember hearing that these were gimmicky and usually broke down quickly, so I never thought much about it, but when I was cleaning up tonight, I accidentally hit the tender-matic control, and the indicator light turned on.

Does anyone know how these are supposed to work?

Thanks! I tried it (with an empty oven) and I couldn't get it to work with the oven turned to "off". But when I set the oven to 350, the motor kicked in and turned the oven up to 500, so the little motors are probably out of whack or something.

I think a low roasted cut of meat might work but it would need to bring the oven up to the correct temp right away.

If nothing else, it's fun to watch the oven control move on its own :-)

I can't see anyone these days willing to leave a piece of raw meat in their oven for 8 hours, but that's me.

I make a well liked Pork Shoulder with a fresh herb rub that is slow roasted for 24 hours at 200 degrees, it's fall apart tender. At this point 4 or 5 family member make it too, and always get rave reviews.

Pork shoulder

Sounds like you have a well-practiced recipe that always works out well for you. I guess lots of folks have different opinions about the Tender Matic slow cooking process.

I’ve had several Frigidaire Tender Matic ovens

The oven control system is very complex and can break down and cause problems, but if the oven is working, the tender matic system will work just fine, Go ahead and try it with the instructions provided by Steve in reply number one. It looks like it should work fine in theory and probably in practice.

John, I tried it with Steve's instructions, and it didnt' work. Didn't even start up.

However, when I put the oven on 350, it kicked in, but took the oven up to 500. I think maybe its calibration is off.

What I don't get is that in the "conventional" meal minder, the dial is for how many hours the oven should operate. In "tender matic", it seems to have another meaning, because the oven will be on for hours.

Frigidaire tender Matic oven operation

Hi Dan, is the timer clock assembly on your stove working properly? Can you do a time bake with your oven?

When the oven turned itself up to 500° did it turn itself down after a little while it should go down to around 200 or so, I have two Frigidaire ranges with this feature and while I’ve never cooked in it, it seemed like it would work properly.

In fact, I have a 40 inch flare on a white metal cabinet where the range is an excellent working condition in very good condition in general that needs a new home if anybody wants a 40 inch Frigidaire flare it’s a 1965 imperial model. Even has a brand new Heat Minder control for the right front 8 inch burner.

Hi John,

The timer works fine, as does the clock. The "heat minder" does the same thing as the "tender-matic". I've never let it run at 500 for long because I don't want to task the thing too much, and it actually goes up into broil.

I notice that went I start it in the off position, the knob sort of jerks, like it wants to turn on, but it doesn't do anything until I manually move it to 350.
