to top it off, only 2 blocks from our house, and turns out the former owner was one of my wife's patients who passed away last year at 92! He was a widower for years, so don't think it was used all that much. The underside has zero rust, just cobwebs. Working, and should clean up nice!! Disposed of in a typical misguided attempt by the young new owners at "updating"... their loss, we've been wanting an "18" for years!

Only real defect is a largish porcelain chip on the upper door edge...well, we have just happen to have 3 KA-17s with very nice doors, so does any one know if the door will interchange from a KDD-67 (17 series) or KDI-17 to a KDI-18???

Also does anyone make a rack touch-up liquid rubber in KA blue?
I only see white at the big box stores.

I found what was likely NOS rack repair in blue at a small local appliance parts place a few years ago after my fingers did a lot of walking.  It's "Maytag" brand, but not that Maytag.  It's very blue and doesn't match the more aqua color of vintage dishwasher racks, but it's better than the gray or white you find in stores today.

I GOT THE BLUES, TOO!

I had ordered the K/A repair pack and got the MT kit too a few years ago. It is better than nothing and it came with alot of tine tips.They have come in handy on some of my racks where the tips were not too heavily coated or got worn out. What is important is that it protects the rack from rusting further.

no the 17 and 18 doors are not interchangeable. The 18 and up doors are longer by I would say 3 inches??? At least they all had the same rinse aid dispenser with the twin holes and solenoid to dispense the wetting agent from the 14 thru the 18 series. The 19 and up started using the single opening with the bimetal actuator.

A SUPERB(A) time should be had by all!

Roger, you have a great collection of machines already but you haven't had a Kitchenaid of any vintage until you get yourself a Superba! All the bells and whistles is the way to go.

I am just partial to any model that has a heating element in the sump to help boost the water temp or at least maintain it. I usually turn away from any other models unless it is a 19 or 20 if it isn't a Superba and any 21 model as long as it was Hobart built with the heat light on the front panel and the 1400 watt sump heater.

I DO love the 21 and 22 models for their washpump design but I really don't go for the single final rinse. I have often removed the flow washer from their fill valves so that the purges between segments become like additional rinses. I find the results are better that way.

I always like the DWs with the second level wash arm.  That is something KAs didn't have until the mid to late 70s. 

 

My 2nd DW was a 1974 KA Superba with a custom wood panel front.  As fun as the Electro-mechanical , one touch timer was,  it didn't have the convenience of that 2nd level wash arm.  It also didn't have the Energy saver Dry.

I bought Frigidaire blue rack repair at the local appliance parts store (with blue plastic tips that I didn't use) which is probably a lighter shade of blue than your Kitchen Aid last year (I didn't use it to repair racks but to repair Plastisol!) and it was very expensive. They also had a darker blue (which was much less expensive) which I think might be a bit darker than yours. I also bought gray to repair the racks of my <span style="font-size: xx-small;">Bosch

 </span>and it was too dark. A friend of mine took the rest of my gray to repair the racks on his KDSC-18. Not too pretty but better than rust!
