Thanksgiving 2019

Do you have dishwasher detergent? Bathroom tissue? Aluminum foil? Trash bags? Paper towels? Coffee, sweet (not hard) cider? or some soda pop? Uncle Gerry stopped drinking this year, and we are so grateful!!

If you are going as a guest...a box of nicer chocolates (Malley's/See's/Pangburn's... A bottle of wine...flowers, (but already in a vase!)

Checkmark on all of the above (mulled cider) including take-out-style clamshells for leftovers to go home, wine, and a centerpiece- Rich does a great job with these.

We hosted about a dozen Boston Gay Men's Chorus members Sunday for the annual BGMC Thanksgiving event (22# bird below). Thursday, Rich's dad will be down and there's a 15#er waiting to be cooked.

Hi Chuck, Are you a member of BGMC? My hubby is a founding member of the Albany Gay Men's Chorus. It came about after years of enjoying the BGMC in Provincetown.
We have gone to the Holly Folly for the last 20 years, to see them in concert at the Town Hall.

Thanksgiving day is dinner at moms, I’ll be taking a bottle of wine for me, cabbage rolls, dinner rolls, and green bean casserole, and my VHS copy of a Christmas Vacation to view after dinner

Rich is a member. He joined a year ago and has really been enjoying it. We'll host a post-holiday holiday party and a bunch will come to that- I'll have karaoke set up. We had a ball last year!

I just had my first Thanksgiving meal of the year today at the Double J Cafe, a small restaurant near Milford, OH. It consisted of turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, and a roll. Had sweet tea to drink. They make everything there, and it's excellent. Didn't get any pie, as I was pretty full.

Tomorrow evening I plan to go to Cracker Barrel around 8 PM, for the turkey dinner there. I've done that for about the last 15 years, as my sister and her family tend to travel at Thanksgiving. They went to Isla Mujeres, Mexico again this year.

I'm not doing anything for Thanksgiving, like usual. No one wants me to come to dinner (small surprise). I'm too lazy to bother cooking anything past a regular week day dinner just for myself.

I agree with you Lordkenmore. Thanksgiving is just another day. No invites for me either. My highlight will be a turkey tv dinner.

Just The Two of Us This Year

and thats fine with me, sometimes we really enjoy being home without company on Thanksgiving, and this is one of those years.

David always looks forward to his “Turk Bird” for T-day. And I enjoy cooking a turkey dinner. I bought a 6.5 lb. turkey breast. Today I baked the rolls, to reheat tomorrow, made the Lime Jello Salad, the dressing with homemade croutons from my homemade WW bread, no pie this year, baked a Pumpkin Pecan Crunch Cake, and got the yam casserole ready for the oven tomorrow. So, tomorrow will be easy. I’ll just need to roast the turkey breast, make the mashed potatoes, make the gravy, reheat the rolls, open a can of Cranberry Sauce and heat the peas and pearl onions,, and call it Thanksgiving.

And we both love the leftovers, and with a MW for reheating they taste almost as good the next day. We’ll have the leftovers for at least the next four days, so that’s a plus too, cooking already done for days.

We’ve got plenty to be thankful for, David’s retired now, we have good health, and happy marriage and a safe, dry, warm, paid for roof over our heads. We count our blessings.

Derek, thanks so much for sharing that with me! And I’m so glad that you and your company enjoy it. I know, its not gourmet, but it wouldn’t be Thanksgiving for me without it. It’s a once a year guilty pleasure.

Tony's mother is doing her yearly "I'm not coming" dance and this year Tony called her bluff...we went  out to eat last night at Rafferty's in Nashville just he and me since I'm supposed to work tonight...no dishes, no leftovers, no mess.  I don't know what we will do for Christmas....

Thanksgiving at home as usual with the immediate family. My sister, niece and I will do all the cooking. As usual we will fall into a food coma sometime after dinner.

just doing the basics as a regular everyday dinner....

doing OK, but not a great time for me...family stops by, and you put on a fake smile....

if there were two choices, I would rather be alone, or having a Wash-In event....enjoying a bottle of Cold Turkey!...

what ever you guys choose, Enjoy your day, and do what makes you Happy!....and think about the things were Thankful for.....

Lucky Greg! What did you order?

I love to eat there. Don't get to go often, as the closest location is in Florence, KY. My friend Doug took me there for my birthday in July. I've had the Bluegrass Special sandwich several times, and also like the House Salad, with the honey mustard bacon dressing.

Just me.  Brother is across the county, weather is lousy, he and I run on different tracks.  We've dinnered before but less since it's farther.

 

Through the past I've cooked whole from scratch for 3 bedrooms of housemates and visitors, cooked breast roast for 2 or 3.  Also several times, turkey TV dinner out of contempt for holidays.

 

Lately I get 1/3# deli sliced from roast, heat in jar gravy, pour over Stovetop with green peas and whole cran sauce sides on a 215* plate.  Chased with the last sliver of Boston cream pie, I'm stuffed.  Had to eat anyway, not that much effort to up-special it, and everything is done in the antique µwave except the stovetop which is done... on... the... stove... top.  Cleanup is a pan, a casserole, a plate and a cup and none of it is baked-on.

 

Wouldn't be surprised if it was beanie weenie Friday.  And cut into the next Boston cream pie, already on deck.

Just me and my wife for Thanksgiving. Did a turkey breast, just enough for or meals and hot open faced turkey sandwiches with stuffing today, then make soup after I strip the meat off. If you are alone or just two people you can still have turkey without all the leftovers. I have purchased whole turkey tenderloins and baked those up along with normal side dishes and have been a wonderful meal without all the long cooking times and mess to clean up.They fit into a toaster oven also. Simple, easy and tasty.
