Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Robert, I love the Westinghouse slant fronts! Didn't you have a couple dishwashers there originally?
Yes I had a '49 Youngstown Jet-Tower dishwasher there before.

The light is a Ozone-germicidal lamp Erik.

13, knock on wood

I knew you'd come, Stevie. The original sentence was even worse, but I fixed it. So much for the fixing. LOL

Robert, it's hard to stay friends with the Brits without ending up some day with a washer in your kitchen, ya know!

Why did you pick the Westies for the kitchen? They look great. Is there a thread about the transfer? I noticed this about a week ago, maybe two, but didn't see anything. Be it ever so humble, there's no place like Automatic Washer.

Why did you pick the Westies for the kitchen?

Hi Mike, cause that is what Mrs. Webmaster has wanted for a while now, so we thought we would give it a try and see how we like it. :-)

How do you like it Robert?

I assumed you did this to open space in the basement for those Fargo finds? Any pics?

Hi Jed, this change made space for the Maytag set. The pretty new Fargo Kelvinator replaced the old wood-grained '66 Kelvinator and the rubber tub machines are still in the garage yet.

More Vids?

Robert, you say more vids? Can you do your 1962 Hotpoint? BTW, I really appreciate the enormous effort you make to maintain the site/club. I'm a new member and just getting to know everybody, but they seem to be a great bunch of folks.

Hmm!

I see a nice new feature of the Iphone! :D Excellent quality video! It has to rival my nice digital film camera! WOW the sound. Most phones have a buzzy, thuddy, sensitive sound.

My old iphone had really really bad picture quality and audio quality. Thats quite an improvement over the past few years!

What a beautiful looking. *and sounding* machine!

Love the vid.

AND....the LADY KENMORE WASHER!

I need me a set.

By the way, what was the difference between Kenmore and Lady Kenmore? Price? Features?

~Tim

We did three loads of wash tonight, I captured another quick video of one of the loads :-)

Wow, talk about "in your face" viewing. Digital video has certainly come and long way and hopefully still has a ways to go.

That Lady Kenmore 57 washer sure reminds me of my Grandmothers washer-was pretty much like the one in the film clip-loved watching it as a kid during the summer visits to Granddads and Grndmothers house. That BIG Roto Swirl was so cool to watch it work!!

Robert - The Westy Slant-Front in HD.........

Would really be nice to see some of the Westy Slant-Front Washer in HD - a little wash/rinse/spin. A few shorts like the LKM above would be great to satisfy the craving till the longer ones later on.

Thanks!

Randy

Robert---Does your Lady K have a suds saver? If so, does the splashing water during the return pop the tub light bulb? Ours used to do that all the time. I've been told that later Kenmore models used a slow agitation speed during the return, which makes sense.

Again, on one of his trips to fix the washer, our repairman "jerry-rigged" a couple of things. He put a foil shield in front of the tub light (which changed the way the tub was lit, so I removed it).

We had a problem with the off-balance kick-out at one point. Our Model 80 had a "Cycle Hold" toggle switch which had the same function as pushing in or pulling out the control knob on a machine with a dial (ours had those colored cycle buttons and the rapid-advance timer). Anyway, we couldn't get it to reset out of the kick-out mode, so he rigged it this way: When the off-balance buzzer sounded and the motor shut down, you'd open the lid and it would automatically reset everything. The motor would kick back in, you'd redistribute the load, close the lid, and the spin cycle would resume.

If the unbalanced condition happened at the beginning of the final spin, you'd usually get your hands showered with the spray rinses while you were redistributing the load.

Frigilux

Obviously you've intended this to go to Robert, but it has a suds saver and I don't think he has ever used it as both hoses go down the drain.

Suds-o-matic actually :)

Thanks Jed you are correct, Eugene I have never used the suds saver on the lady Kenmore, both hoses go into the drain stack pipe.

Randy, the Laundromat is going to be a bit more of a challenge to film with proper lighting. Later on next week I'll try filming with a load of white towels. We see how it comes out.

Thanks, Robert!

"I've seen my '57 filter spray at the gasket like you described. On occasion it caused a stream of water to go over the tub ring and create a major leak of water on the floor!"

CU mentioned that the manual clean filter in the 1958 4 Star Cycla-Fabric machine could cause flooding if not carefully maintained. I was picturing a basement with several inches of water sloshing around on the floor, but it was less dramatic, I guess. Still, they used the word "flooding." Thanks for explaining how it could happen.

I like the FabricMatic action on the video.
