Well, the Maytag 906s are finally home in St. Charles, hooked up and running. What a saga this has turned out to be. I first saw these beautiful specimens at Greg Nunn’s in Omaha at the June 2005 Washer convention. I coveted them even before I got there. I hate to say it, but, I set my cap for them early on, and gladly report that my charm and persuasiveness won Greg over and he sold them to me.
See the attached photo link to see the whole story. They arrived from Omaha and were stored in my garage until I could get my contractor (a full-time fireman and part time contractor (and quite cute as well which is why I am inclined to wait so long)) to put a 220V electrical line into my laundry room and a gas line to the basement where my Neptunes were relegated. The machines arrived in July and are finally installed on the 3rd of September. Boy, that took patience.
The contractor installed the utilities (which he did) and was supposed to move the machines, but never was able to get that together (perhaps it was because I told him that if he scratched those 906s a fate worse than death would befall him.). I finally called a moving company and they came this weekend to move the Neptunes to the basement and the 906s from the garage to the laundry room. When I went to hook up the dryer, I realized he had put a four-prong receptacle and I had put a 3-prong plug on the dryer. I checked all the wiring to make sure that I wired the new 4-lead cord and plug right and realized that he had wired the receptacle wrong. He hooked up ground to neutral. I re-wired the receptacle and put a new 4-lead cord on the dryer and lo-and-behold, it worked!
I was so pre-occupied with getting the dryer to work that I just assumed that the washer would work fine when I plugged it in. CURSES!!! I plugged it in and pressed one of the buttons and no lights and just a hum. Long story short, I called Greg and he walked me through getting the rapid-advance motor to start working again and we were off to the races.
Now, the machines need leveling and the interior light was burned out. I put some new hoses which ran slow and those needed to be replaced. After getting the washer to work right, replacing the interior light (no small trick) and leveling as best I could, they are now fabulously working in my laundry room with the KDI-14. Did a few loads of laundry and we are off to the races. When Greg comes in in October, we will do some final leveling and get that rapid-advance timer lubricated. Thanks again Greg, I am in Maytag heaven!!!
