<span style="font-family: Garamond, serif; font-size: medium;">The new and improved Advanced Editing Bar has returned and hopefully will get to stay.  I completely reworked this implementation because there were so many bugs in the last one.  I'm hoping that this time it goes easier.  Please keep me posted if you notice anything strange.  If there are too many issues I will pull the code out again and continue to debug on the development server.</span>

<span style="font-family: Garamond, serif; font-size: medium;">This new bar allows you resize the text box as well as toggle a full screen mode which will be helpful during long posts. </span>

<span style="font-family: Garamond, serif; font-size: medium;">Please note that this is not available on any Apple Mobile Device.  I also have not tested this on Internet Explorer 9 yet, but 9 is still in Beta and only two people appear to be using it as of yet.  Also please remember this bar is only available to upgraded members.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but I found a bug, a BIG one for me. With the AEB on my spell check in Firefox does not work!  If I type in the other text boxes spell check works fine ( with the about:config option set correctly in Firefox)

You do not want to read my posts without spellcheck!!!

You dont want to read my posts either without spell-check!

Thanks Matt, I realized that after the fact this evening.  Temporarily if you wish you can right click and select Check-Spelling in the Advanced Editor text-box, otherwise just keep it turned off for tonight.  I think I know the fix to keep the spell checker turned on without having to right-click it and I will work on that tomorrow.

Maybe it will fix the post preview hang issue, as well?

Rich, I sent you an aw.org mail about that.

Question:  Is there a way to make your formatting choices sticky?  Rather than having to reset them every time?..
I haven't figured out a good way of doing that yet Malcom without using a lot of system resources.

The spell check issues are 95% resolved in Firefox, so go ahead give it a try.  I'll keep working at it when I have time.

What are you using for a spell check

I'm not Gary, its controlled by browsers that have built in Spell-Checkers.  Firefox, Opera, Chrome, etc.  Internet Explorer does not have any spell checking built in.

I'm Almost Done!

One of the last things on my to-do list was a request by Tom to add an ability to manually change all of the wash/rinse/spin indicators to either READ or UNREAD status.

You'll notice now two new commands on the Index page if you are an upgraded member, they should be pretty self-explanatory...

Drat

The "set all read" function has a problem. This happened to me in more than one forum, but for reporting purposes I will use this one.

I set all the posts to "read" and all the buttons changed to blue "Spin" as expected.  Went away, came back, and decided to read this thread from the start.  So I clicked on the greyed-out "Wash" button.  Was positioned to the start of the thread as expected.  However, upon returning to the forum list, all the posts that I had not actually read had reverted to their red "Wash" settings.  Not every one, I had read the one about Westinghouse roasters and that was still blue.  I don't know if I've reported enough symptoms to go on, but that is what I saw.

Hi Tom, thanks for reporting this.

I'm trying to emulate what you did so I can see what the issue might be.  I have not been able to see any bug, it appears to work just fine for me, so let me list what I did to try and follow your steps:

#1 Came into Super Fourm Index and then I clicked on this thread,

#2 Returned to the Super Forum Index (by clicking on the Super Icon on the top navigation bar),

#3 Marked all threads as SPIN (Read),

#4 Clicked on the grayed out WASH button of this thread,

#5 Returned to Super Forum Index and all threads are still set to blue (SPIN) just as expected.

Is this the same path you followed and got a different result, can you try again?

btw, not sure if this is part of the issue, but if you are using the back arrow key in Firefox, Chrome, Safari or Opera it will not update the page unless you press reload, that is why I always use the icons on the top nav-bar.  With the latest versions of IE back-arrow also performs a refresh in some instances.

Hi Robert,

Lets see how formatting with IE9 goes
smiley-smile.gif

In the last few days however, the site seems much slower than it used to be, the main forum pages load ok, but I've had a few attempts at loading the home page this morning and it's taking 15 plus seconds for all of the menu bars to finish loading.  There are lags and delays when navigating around that never used to happen.

Images within the threads are also now downloading line by line instead of image by image.

I've tried a reboot, and the rest of my internet experience is running as usual.

Cheers

Nathan

Robert, still a bug with spellcheck.  I just discovered while typing a post that if you hit return to start a new paragraph all the misspelled words are no longer highlighted.  If you go back to the previous paragraph and start typing the misspelled word are highlighted again.  Weird.

I came back to Super from Deluxe to check whether Robert had replied.  Clicked on the yellow button to read the thread.  Saw Robert unable to reproduce.  Went back to forum list using one of the various "Super" links. (I got out of the habit of using the back arrow on this site a while back)  Below is a capture of the list contents. You will note that the threads below the Sony Manuals (32483) have reverted to red "Wash" despite being forced to blue "Spin" several times today.  On to the next message.

Now my memory is fuzzy, I should have written down the steps.  What I think I did was to go to "As the Tub Turns" forum list, then return to "Super".  I read the thread about the '57 Chevy (32482) and once I returned to "Super", the threads below it had reverted to red "Wash".  That's the gist of what I have seen, several times now.  I wish I could remember what the forum list looked like before I read 32482. I didn't want to make a half-dozen screen caps at every step, but I could if that would help.

Another shot, more carefully done

This time I made notes in an editor:

1.) Imperial at 1323 CST. First two posts yellow, all the rest are blue because I set them
that way earlier today.

2.) click yellow button thread 42453. Positions to reply #9 in the thread.  Return to forum list
via the Imperial link immediately below that post.

3.) thread 32543 is blue as should be.  32494 is still blue.  threads below, which I have never
read, have reverted to red.  ONE EXCEPTION is thread 32451 about the GE 1962 brochures. I read
this thread earlier today. It is blue and it should be blue of its own accord.  The ones
which reverted are those which I never did read. I believe that I did read the Blackstone
thread 32494 as well at some earlier time.

I guess you can't put two images in one post, so see the next one to go along with point 3 above.

Thanks Tom, I just got it to do it for me and I will work on the bug now.

Matt, yes I realize that about the speller check lines going off with an enter.  After googling around the internet looking for its cause I found it is because the Advanced Editor Text Input box is converted to a rich-text box and the <span id="search">Gecko </span>spell checker that FF and Chrome uses operates not as smoothly in rich-text boxes as in standard text boxes. So really the solution is to either leave the Advanced Editor turned off or when that happens right click and de-select Spell Check and then re-select it which re-highlights everything.

Nathan, IE9 has not been released from Beta yet.  You and only one other member is using IE9 out of 900+ or logged in members from what I can tell from the login-report.  I plan on doing some heavy duty testing with IE9 once everything else is finished and working properly (almost there actually).  I'll send you an email via the aw.org system about the testing.

Thanks Robert, that is doable.  What I think I'll do is just correct the paragraph I'm on before moving on.

Sort of unrelated question, but do you have any idea how to edit the word list used with Firefox for spelling correction?  There are a few words I commonly mistype and would like to remove the very similar words from the list so that they show as misspelled.  I googled it a while back and never found an answer.  Most of my problems are typos, not spelling, I've seemed to developed dyslexic typing a few years ago, I think from some meds I was on...

Robert, I've noticed this for a few days, don't know if it's really a bug or not.

Take a look at the posts in yellow.  I was the last poster in these and when I came back to the site only the thread I stared and posted in is Blue.  Shouldn't all the threads I was the last post in be marked blue since there is nothing new there since I was last on the site?

I pulled out of the system (just temporarily) the Mark as Wash or Spin links.  They need a bit more work, the good news is it appears I got them working perfectly in Firefox, but they are making Safari and Chrome nauseous lol.

You wouldn't think such a simple thing would be such a challenge, but tomorrow is another day.  I'll get it working properly.

Why oh why can't all browsers operate the same way, it makes web programming super hair-raising.

Robert,

Tried to embed a video.  It shows up in the preview but not after posting.

Did you turn something off when you pulled out?

Stay warm!

Brent

Hi Brent, can you please email me the embed link you used, I'll test it.   I bet I need to tweek the post code for an embed.
