3M Filtrete

Provided you keep on top of replacement, even the highest performing Filtrete variants shouldn't pose an issue if your home A/C or Heat was installed properly (I know: Highly unlikely). Besides, past a certain level (Higher than 1200MPR, I recall), the airflow ratings begin to improve until you get to the highest models.

We personally use the 1500MPR Filtrete's and have no issue whatsoever with icing or airflow (perhaps the leaky, bodgy ductwork, in which case a filter is useless), and the house stays so much cleaner in the Summer!

Reply #58 looks to be a General Electric A/C.....we had one growing up but it had 4 circle louvers...

don't even talk about duct work.....most homes today, for noise and ease of install are using these insulated fiberboards, instant duct with a few bends and silver duct tape....

not thinking into the future, of dust, pollen, mold, ever building up inside, over time it can happen, replacement is the only option.....unlike metal duct work that can be cleaned...

I finally got the Eaton Viking version of the Heat Controller "Twin" a/c today. It's a 9000 BTU unit.

I need to buy a filter for it and clean it a bit but it works fine.

The cabinet is in good shape. It's a bit dirty and it's not new but it's not bad considering it's from 1969. I took a few more pictures.
It's already installed in a basement window, I just need to get a filter for it!

It's some dirt/paint, the top part of the cabinet and the sides are made of aluminum with a stamped motif like some appliances have. On the top of an air conditioner, that attracts dirt.

Love those fasco motors

Helped my uncle change many of them when he serviced window units.

If only they were still serviceable...

I got some 8,000 BTU LG that's 10 or so years old sitting in the garage that my dad wants me to look at. Said it wasn't blowing cold, which sounds to me like it's got a leak and gonna have to be tossed.
