Today i was just having a browse on eBay and came across this dyson washing machine, it has a faulty drum only one turns when spinning and i brought it, but i would like to guess the price it may shock you,

Hey there

I had a dyson washing machine in white for a very long time, it was a good machine all in all. However I did have a few problems recently before I got rid of it in June and got a LG steam washing machine.

The problem you describe, one drum turning. I had that, it was on a prewash when it occured. I ran and quickly shut it off as it was proceeding for a spin after the water had drained. The problem is with the 'planet carrier assembly' which is what was stated on the dyson receipt when the engineer came. It will cost around £100 if you call dyson, and they will give you a years cover on top which is what we got. They also replace any other worn parts such as the motor/s in the price. Ours was fully serviced before I got rid of it.

I would not reccomend plumbing it in, with one drum turning it will cause an imbalance and possibly damage the machine!

This seems like a really neat concept after watching the videos on it.

It also looks really mechanically complex, there must be reason why Dyson stopped making them.

Then again, in all honesty, It's been my experience that Dyson thinks up some absolutely wonderful engineering ideas, but doesn't implement them very well. (I'm talking mostly about those bladeless fans they sell and their hand dryers.)

I can't help think when looking at this thing that it looks like a toy. It's the colored plastic which does it, especially the purple detergent dispenser. (No offense!)

Good luck getting your machine up and running, especially for that cheap price, I think the repair is worth it.

oh no!

i have just rung Dyson and its unrepairable, theres no parts longer available for the machine, its needs a new tub, gearbox and motor and they no longer make them i think my machine is only for display purposes

Trey your Dyson is easy enough to repair

Yourself with a little help and the cheapest option I would suggest is getting another Dyson washer off ebay with no drum problems but with electronic issues then make a good machine out of the 2 by either removing the drum and transplanting it or change the electrics from yours to the other one...
If you need help give us all a shout am sure we can be of assistance.!

I think it's a shame that Dyson doesn't stand behind their products. The Contra-Rotator machine can't be that old.

Trey, I was surprised at first, that a sixteen-year-old young man could afford such a "luxury" for himself! Now that you've divulged the bargain price you paid for the Dyson, I took a breath of relief! Would you please tell me if your Dyson washer is made elsewhere other than the UK? Yes, I now have, a Dyson Contrarotator CRO1 Memory just like yours, you can see a photo as my new profile pic!

I saw mine sitting outside a house on the way home from school on Thursday, I did a double take!

After sprinting home, I told my dad and after about 10 minutes of my persuasive techniques my English teacher would be proud of, we jumped in the car.

Upon arrival, we rang the doorbell of the house in question, and asked the lady about the washing machine.

She said: "You can take it. Its waiting for scrap. The drums don't work, it has a special two drum thing you know. The rest of it works fine!"

After my previous experiance with scrap collectors, I decided that yes, we would take it.

We borrowed a lifting trolley, as it was extremely heavy, and thanks to a very kind passer-by, managed to get it in the back of a VW Golf.

When we arrived back home, we couldn't get it out of the car it was that heavy! A quick phone call to my (strong) uncle who agreed to come and help.

He helped get it through the French doors round the back of the conservatory, as it wouldn't fit through the front and back door!

Electronics fine, a quick spin cycle showed that the drums were very hard to turn. They still Contrarotate though.

A quick call to Chris (aquarius8000) who believes the bearings to be dead.

He then confirmed that they have three sets of bearings, three!

Was left last night to wait until the morning (today) as we decided to look at it today, as I was not at school due to a Teacher Training day.

So, a bit of a disection today, removed top and back panels, removed bearings, greased, and the whole mechanics of the machine were cleaned.

Three hours and several cups of strong tea later, the machine was back together - including draw clean and a general wipe down, all ready for a test drive - again.

So, a quick spin and the results were shocking! The machine turned, and turned and made its way to 1400rpm!

Perfect! I then pondered on this machines capabillities, and did:

Cottons 85 Maintinence
Cottons 60 Mixed Towels
HandWash
Duvet Cycle - 60 on my single duvet!

An excellent machine overall, will definately keep it for a while, possibly may swap this rould with the Bosch!

And afterwards, I went to my Currys and Comet to goggle at the new machines!

US law only applies within the USA! This machine is in England...They may have a different number, or may have no such law at all.

Four years is a very very short production run for an engineering cycle. To me, that usually indicates that it gave Dyson a lot of headaches.

Dyson could have improved on the durability of the machine and made that same design for 20 years, after all, they had to pay some engineer to design it.

It seems wasteful to spend millions of dollars on engineering, only to do a short production run and then abandon the market altogether.

I think that it was a very unique design, they could have sold these machines in North America in the big box department stores. (Since Dyson vacuums are very popular up here in Canada.)

I think they would have sold a lot of machines here if they priced them decently and perhaps toned down the coloured plastics so it doesn't make it look so much like a big toy. (For some people, this isn't necessarily such a bad thing...)
