The Results are in and they are SHOCKING!

The results from the Maytag are just shocking!!! I thought for sure the AMP at 618rpm with 4 minutes would do a better job than the Kelvinator at 550rpm at 5 minutes, but I was wrong, check this out...

This next test also should be very interesting. Here is my newly restored 1957 Speed Queen. It has the coin-op Speed Queen spin pulley installed which brings the spin up to 700rpm. The Speed Queen's final spin is 8 minutes long which is one of the longer spins and it has a solid stainless steel tub.

Results to come soon, I'm on the edge of my seat...

More amazing results!

The Speed Queen did almost as well as the Standard Harmony Spin, only 0.1 pound difference!!!! The Harmony 9 minute spin, top speed 1010rpm, the Speed Queen 8 minute spin 700rpm. But the Speed Queen revs right up to 700rpm without wasting any time, the Harmony takes it's own sweet time getting up to full speed. The Harmony has a neutral drain and I also wonder if this makes a difference because the clothes settle to the bottom before it takes off spinning. In the Speed Queen they spread out over the entire height of the tub because of the water going over the top.

Boy this is very interesting...

The final washer for tonight will be the 1955 Westinghouse Laundromat. I'm interested so see this. It has a perforated drum, 4 minute spin at 475 rpm, it should be better than the Bendix, but I've had quite a few surprises tonight so who knows.

Results shortly...

The Westinghouse Laundromat results are not as bad as I thought they might be, but they are not very good either. 15 lbs on the dot.

I can't wait to test other machines, including the '47 GE, the 2005 Maytag Neptune Top Loader and many others, even my Maytag wringer washer will be interesting to see, but I need some pointers from Geoff to make sure I'm using the wringer properly before I test. I'll continue testing tomorrow night.

News Flash!

this morning Robert flies out to Westytoploader's for a test in the GE Combo, then its a pm flight to Omaha and a test in Gansky's Maytags...

Great tests! But can you restest the Bendix?

Wonderful tests, thanks so much for posting that.

But, being me, I see a possible gnat in the lotion...

Which is, all this activity may be resulting in the towels losing mass to lint.

Which has me wondering how the Bendix would perform if you were to retest it with the same towels that have seen a fair amount of "action" in the testing. I'm willing to guess they might be a lb or so lighter the second time around. That I'm nostalgic for mom's old Bendix is besides the point, LOL.

all this activity may be resulting in the towels losing mass to lint.

Actually you have a very good point Rich, even though the "activity" has been minimal at this point. But I have an idea to validate the data. The benchmark probably shouldn't be how the little Bendix does, (although I can certainly try the Bendix again for fun) but how much the towels weigh dripping wet.

In a little bit a create a simple spreadsheet and run my idea by you guys.

Awww don't be nervous Robert

I think these tests are cool, I'm volunteering my Maytag and my Hoover Twinnie for the tests, and we could even hook up my 1998 Amana to see what it does too.

I remember when I visited Greg last year we did some clothes in the Maytag Wringer, then put them in the '58 Unimatic for a final spin, and I was amazed at how much additional water the Unimatic spun out...
Can't wait to see those test results!

I'm going to try to get to Target today to buy some of these same towels so we can test them in some of the machines here as well. I have friends with different machines who I'm sure wouldn't mind a quick rinse and spin for sake of science.

I'm very curious how the 850 RPM spin stacks up agains the Unimatic's 1140, the GE, Westinghouse, Bendix and Maytag combos do as well as the Maytag top-loader.

Robert, don't forget about the lowly Bendix rubber-tub!

WHAT FUN!

But your weights are off:

Bendix came it at between Trout & Chicken!
Harmony spun out at halfway between Chicken and tomato!
Kelvinator spun out closer to tomato!
The Maytag is a double tomato!!!!!
Speed Queen which blew me away, its is more of a chicken than a tomato! Unbelieveable!

I'm off to target tonight to see if I can get the same towels, what size did you buy Robert???
