Looks like the news reports are hyping this coming storm as the Blizzard of 2011.  Thought I'd get a jump on it and start a thread.

Here in Michigan we are not due to get hit until late tonight (Tues.) and Wed.. We did get about an inch last night, was not expecting it.

So far this winter I've only used my snow blower twice and it's seems to be acting up.  Anyone have a Sears small green encased snow blower?  It think the rubber edges on the bale get worn down so it won't get down to the driveway, other issue is it only throws snow for any distance when the chute is up all the way and straight ahead, if I rotate it 20-90 degrees it only throws the snow 2-3'.  My solution is to do the drive way in angular sweeps across the drive, it will throw 15-25' that way.  Kind of a pain.

Well, post your "Blizzard" updates and share how you are doing in your part of the country...

Ice storm

We're in an Ice Storm Warning here in Central Indiana. We have about .25 to .30 accumulation of ice on trees, powerlines and the ground right now, I can't even walk from the porch to the driveway, it's so slick.

Total ice accumulations here in Central Indiana by later tonight of 1 inch to 1.5 inches on surfaces, trees and powerlines with 20 to 40mph winds as the storm exits. We're expecting widespread power outages by tonight.

Stay safe!

NW Arkansas here and have about 1 inch of ice 1 inch or more of sleet and about 5 inches of snow so far.  80 miles west of us Tulsa has about 13 inches and at the Hard Rock (Cherokee) casino part of the roof fell in.  My company has 6 plants close poulty and pet food and have 4 more that will close for 2nd and 3 rd shifts today.

Expect Whitley Strieber (co-author with Art Bell of the pseudoscience tome "The Coming Global Superstorm) to be tonight's guest on Coast to Coast AM with George Noory where they'll engage in at least 2 hours of "Ha, we toldja so, we toldja so!"

Never mind that they never seem to own up to all their past failed predictions but gloat about the occasional near-hit.

Wonderful pic, Joe!

Here in Cincinnati, we got 0.1 inches of ice and it was the WORST tenth of an inch of ice ever. It stuck around for almost 25 minutes! Thus far, this storm is a big load of nothing.

Of course, local news can make a sunny day look like Armageddon,

Yeah, I heard the term "snowmageddon" used today, since the bad weather is making news even in parts of the country where it's sunny and relatively warm.  I'm sure the "StormTracker" local TV weather reporters are in total frenzy mode back there.  They predict the storm of the century around here and we end up with just some sprinkles.

Apparently the system that swept through here quickly last weekend is causing all the trouble.  It seems odd, since it didn't drop a lot of rain or pack any serious winds.  I guess it built up steam (or ice, as it were) as it traveled east.

Meanwhile, no rain is expected here for a couple more weeks now, and we may have mid 70's by week's end.  Not at all typical for this time of year here but hey, if it's not going to rain, I'll take this type of weather in the interim.  The almond trees are starting to bloom.  They're always the first, but when they do that at the end of January you know it's been warmer than usual.

I hope nobody involved with this latest round of B.S. weather suffers any serious negative impacts.  I can't even imagine the relentless snow and ice scene you all have been dealing with this winter.

We had about 4 inches of snow here earlier- followed by freezing drizzle. Not sure what's coming tonight- supposed to be from the west. May be home tomorrow. I'm at work- just couldn't take 2 days off- comes out of vacation time.
It's a bitch here in the northeast with what is already on the ground.

In Central Texas it as 70 yesterday and 79 the day before.  It's 25 now and forecast of 14 (wind chills up to -3) tonight and low of 12 tomorrow night.  We've had some icy conditions, thus I stayed home.  Still possibility of snow through Friday evening in the forecast. A small town about an hour from here has no natural gas service and won't until tomorrow morning.  And icy road conditions 50 miles north of here have shut down I-35.

Some Pics Fro My Building

I decided to venture up to the 9th floor and snap a few pics a few hours ago.

In this one, if you look to the right, you can see a mail vehicle going up the street. That vehicle spent almost an hour and a half trying to get out of the snow in front of our building. I think someone finally came and pulled her out..not sure.

Also, look how "erect" the flag is. We've been having some pretty hefty wind gusts today (highest so far has been 32 mph).

Meanwhile,

Here in Central WI we aren't supposed to get much of anything, thankfully.  I am so sick of shoveling all the 1-2 inch snowfalls we've been getting.  But, I'll take a couple small snowfalls instead of one huge dumping.  The link is for the extended forecast for our vicinity.

Another Pic

Still on the 9th floor for this one too. This is a main street where the cars are. Any other day, it's busier than hell..today was an exception.

Severe Thunderstorm here right now

Here the airport has cancelled flights to Dallas and many other cities that are socked in. It is raining like mad and there is a tornado watch and high winds. There is a wind advisory. It is one of those rains where one would get totally drenched if went outside, ie like if one jumped in a pool. Tonight it is suppose to go to freezing

Dateline: St. Louis Suburbs

Freezing rain off and on most of yesterday, then sleet all morning. I had already planned on not going to work today, and glad I did since my street was a sheet of ice when I got up.

We're having a break now, and snow will be next. I think I'm going to get lucky and be in the area that won't get 15 - 20"....I'm thinking 6 max, but the forecasters are being more wishy-washy than I've ever heard.

I'm thankful that the power has not gone out, and there haven't been water line breaks. (although that might happen later in the week when it gets bitterly cold.)

I'm also thankful that most people listened and didn't go to work or anywhere else.  I've not heard of any major accidents.

On the local news they showed a story about a guy who lives in a nearby neighborhood. One step onto his front porch this morning, and down he went. He broke his wrist and will require surgery.

Our driveway is a solid sheet of ice. We might get warm enough to have rain melt it by early tomorrow; if not, then I'll be out there spreading salt, carefully.

Some rain and blowing like hell early this morn.  Sunny and blowy through the day.  Current temp is 34°F, which surprised me when I checked, lower than I expected.  Predicted 24°F-ish tonight & tomorrow night.

Bill, after seeing your pix, is it the resolution or is it really a situation where the street can't be distinguished from the sidewalk or the parking lot?  When nothing has been plowed yet, is the rule of thumb to stick towards what you guess to be the middle of the road?  Why even drive under circumstances like that?

Snowing and windy all day today. Schools and businesses closed early, etc.

I don't understand why alot of individuals (mostly the media) get so worked up over it.

You would think they've never seen it snow before. It's been this bad before. In fact, I can remember WORSE than this several years back.

I don't sweat it one bit. It's winter in KANSAS. Where the weather can change in an instant and it usually does. 70 degrees one day and 20 the next. It's normal for around here. A storm here can drop 6 inches of snow one day and melt it away the next.
