Hello all,

hope that everyone is staying cool in the summer heat that we have been hit with. Taking a break from a few things this past week I was trolling through the depths of craigslist and stumbled across these. I still need to pick them up but I was wondering if any of the members here can give me an idea as to the age of these two Frigidaire appliances. The price was very reasonable for both and will post more pictures when Evan and I take our adventure to do retrieve these from Madison this Saturday.

Thanks and hope ya enjoy.

Mike

The matching stove that was said to only be used on major holidays, and resided in the basement of the home. Both the stove and fridge were purchased new by the home owner and needed to leave do to a sale of the house.

1960!

at least I know the fridge is, I think the range is too,but you can tell by the model no...example, RCI 60= Range custom imperial,1960.

that is the fridge

that i grew up with bought new in 60 or 61 lasted till 74 compressor went out was replaced grandparents got it now idea where it ended up

The range is a DeLuxe. The 1960 Custom Deluxe has a full glass front panel and a heat-minder burner.

Here's a picture of my 1960 Deluxe range (a Canadian model) RDAG-38C-60.

The "G" is for the glass door, "C" is for Canada and the "A" is for "an economy model without the Pull-N-Clean oven. There's a Deluxe version without the "A" that has the Pull-N-Clean oven.

And the picture of a 1960 Canadian Custom Deluxe RCDG-39C-60 (note the full glass control panel and the heat minder, I think US models also had the Speed Heat burner).

Frankly, it gets complicated in the 1960 model year, at least in the USA models.  There was an RD-38-60 (the Deluxe model WITH a pull-n-clean oven, but NO speed heat or heat minder) there was a RDA-38-60 (the deluxe model as mentioned before, but WITHOUT the pull-n-clean oven liner) and THEN there was the RCD-39-60 which had the speed heat, the heat minder, AND the pull-n-clean oven.

Same in Canada but starting in 1960, there's no Speed Heat on any Frigidaire range/cooktop available here (other than that, the color of the porcelain of the oven liners sometimes differ from the US-production too).

It gets even more complicated here as there's a new "parallel" Canadian-specific line of 30" free-standing ranges introduced around that time. At first economy models with 1959 Super and Deluxe style but with different controls and timers and then some different-looking models with the same "Deluxe" and "Custom Imperial" designations as the US ranges.

Frigidaire Canada stopped making the US twins somewhere in 1962 and made only the Canadian free-standing 30" models for 1963. They kept making built-ins, drop-ins and Flairs that were similar to the US models however. The Canadian line of free-standing ranges kept the 1963-style cabinets until the end of the Canadian production in 1970. The oven doors got a larger glass and updated handles, similar to those in the then-current US products for 1966 and the controls saw yearly changes until the 1967 "L" series which stayed in production until 1970.

Here's my 1966 Custom Imperial range (Model RJ-39K).

Custom Imperials had a thermostatic broil that used the same thermostat as the bake element but the other Canadian 30" series had a bake/broil selector.

hello from Madison

Well today was the day. We made our way to Madison and picked up our latest finds.

The fridge is a fd-11-60 and the range is a rd-38-60, with the pull out oven
Both also came with their orginal owners manuals.

Just a quick picture in progress much more to follow later

That pic must have been taken on the east side of Madison.  I think that Best Buy in the background is near East Towne Mall.

Great! The Pull-N-Clean oven makes cleaning easier (you can bring it outside for cleaning too). That also avoids spilling Easy-Off on the aluminum trim of the storage drawer. To clean those without the Pull-N-Clean oven, the drawers with aluminum trim/handles (and even those without) should always be removed before spraying oven cleaner.

Mike,

I just may have to come over from Wausau to see these beauties close up after you get them installed.  Looks like you scored some real treasures.
