This Poor Machine.

Talk about "Rode Hard and Put Away Wet"...

This machine was from a Summer Home. It's just a shame people don't take care of things.

Mechanically... It appears "So Far So Good". Nice and clean under the skirt...

BUT... Neglect just scratches the surface on the Exterior Surface.. Water Front Homes that are not heated or insulated well.  Seems to be a great formula for rust

Creature from the Black Sump

Science Project = Hazmat Suit and Gloves

Somebody just chucked Anti Freeze on top of the Black Slime in the sump.

I was actually a little nervous even though I misted some Bleach on it first.

Before and Afters are quite apparent.

Chamber Maid

Yukky Doo Doo Ca Ca...

Mildew everywear.

But My New Go to... Mr. Clean Magic Erasure.

First we'll finish the Sump... Then Mildew Magic !!!

BTW The first shot is my New Idea for breaking down parts.  Plastic Egg Trays are Fantastic for holding Nuts and Screws. You can close them up and not worry about them falling out. Maybe that's Old News, but it's New to Me. Sort of an Epiphany.

Great for Cataloging Parts and Storing Them too.

Enough for tonight.

Installed the New Constant Rinse. Of Course the Old One was Snapped Off.

And the Hack Job on the Unicouple.  Why, Why, Why do people do these things ?  Don't they know machines have feelings ?

Hi Matt.

Yeah, I hit a Streak O' KitchenAids.

The Avocado (the one you were trying to grab for me this summer and Thanks) is another Problem Child.

The Whole Cabinet needs to come off to fix the Door Stops. Looks like a Kid or Someone used it as a Step Stool.

I may take the Panels to a Body Shop and have them shot Shiny Black. Then I'll have a New Butcher Block cut for the top as the Old One was Very Scary. All the Sanding in the world would not have helped that at all.

The Coppertone may have to go too as there is some rust under the Paint. :(

Somebody also dropped it on one corner and it was loaded with scented Candle Wax.

But... It looks great underneath and the Porcelain is in Nice Shape.

So Water Testing will abound the next few days. My Dad's house isn't that far from you.  So maybe in the Spring or who knows.  Take Care.

My dad's family had summer places in Pocasset and Centerville for decades.....

The premature rust and mold/mildew really isn't a surprise. Dampness on the Cape is pervasive and year-round. If one isn't prepared for that, life can get really soggy really quickly... and stay that way:-(

OTOH, if you are prepared, the Cape can be amazing:-)

Now if only there were a faster way to get to P'town...

Jim

Now if there was only a faster way to get to P'Town

Jim,

I don't know when the last time you were in P'Town but it's been about 7-8 years for me.

Provincetown has been bought up by Wealthy Snobby Gays that have aquired most of the Real Estate and Restaurants. Provincetown has alienated most weekend winter traffic due to the High Prices on lodging and dining out. (Which is really the only thing to do this time of year). You used to have to make reservations for New Year's Eve months in advance.

They also have priced themselves out of a work force. Many businesses have bought homes in Wellfleet and Eastham and then purchased Older Passenger Vans and drive their help back and forth.

The place has no appeal to me anymore from what I remember it back in the 1980s.

Most of my fiends in P'Town are gone and passed back in the late 80s early 90s during the peak of the HIV epidemic. I don't like the "A" term. It's time to change that name. It's a very Dark name and now that HIV is somewhat under control I feel it's time for a better name like C.I.S. (Compromised Immune System.) The term AIDS is just so Dark and Terminal.
