The term "tag sale" is definitely a regional thing. I have never seen an ad or a sign for a "tag" sale here on the west coast. There are two types: Garage/yard and estate sales. That's it. Rummage sales are, as a general rule, associated with fund raising.
I don't see how garage or yard sales can be called "tag" sales when in an overwhelming number of instances, nothing is priced. IMO, an "estate" sale comes closer to a "tag" sale because almost every item has a price, either on an individual tag or a sign that indicates cost per unit, such as with books or records.
