Cans wax lined...

Nope, they are line with a resin. Wax would just melt during the heat processing canned foods go through. "Dr." Linda Posch sounds sorely misinformed.

You know often times store brand stuff is made by the same companies that make the name brands...but the store brand stuff costs less. I have had good luck buying lets say Stop and Shop store brand stuff. I dont buy Market Basket name brand stuff since its so friggin cheap and in the case of ZipLock bags the zip parts come undone from the bag. Trash bags from Shaws HomeLife brand are made in China. And they are thin as tissue.
Oh and of course 70 sq ft of foil will cost much less than 200 sq ft..

Side does matter

Several of you have mentioned the different sides of Reynolds wrap and its' impact on food. For years we have conducted a test in the lab where similar potatos are baked unwrapped, wrapped shiny side out, and shiny side in.
As would be expected, the potato baked with shiny side in cooks faster. The dull aluminum side absorbs radiant heat and the shiny side reflects the heat. The potatos come out crisper and stay warm longer cooked this way.

A few Reynolds wrap commercials have been filmed in the lab. It is amazing how with minimal props they can trsnsform the lab into an almost unrecognizable kitchen.

Familiar Brands not what they Seem

Hi Laundromat,

You should carefully read the packaging on the Nabisco Crackers. I recently bought 4 boxes on special and it wasnt until I was half way through the second box that I read Made in China.

It's sad that even the name brands arent even what they appear to be anymore. I was trying to buy dried apricots on the weekend that were a product of AU rather than Turkey and in the end gave up and bought dried apples instead.

We've had a similiar thing occur recently with aluminium foil, the OSO brand that was always independant and of a good quality is now branded Glad OSO and the packaging has changed in line with the Glad Wrap cling wrap that has always been a staple. BTW does anyone know what happened to Union Carbide?

I think Union Carbide as been tossed around right much lately. It was bought by Dow Chemical a while back, but I think they ended up selling off Union carbide's consumer products, like eveready batteries and Prestone Antifreeze to SG Johnson company.
