Hey guys,
Well with good comes bad, the good was i aqquired my new hotpoint ultima, which is going swimmingly. The bad news was. yesterday.

My mother decided to was my brothers exceptionally old feathered pillow that he refused to give up. well, now he has to. It EXPLODED in our AEG L74640 and totally jammed up the pump and recirculatory jet.

We have a repairman coming tues, i cant even drain water from the emergency drain pipe near the filter.

So. i've been eyeing up replacements. This one could be a costly repair...hmmm.

All will be revealed in the coming days.

If youre lucky....

Hey Darren

It might just need unblocking therefore it may be labour only :)

If not AEG parts arnt that expensive- cheaper than Miele anyhows!

There's a reason why it's not a good idea to machine wash feather pillows!!

The feathers have quite likely clogged up the sump and possibly the eco valve that prevents detergent from running out. It should be a simple matter of unclogging it!

When the machine's unclogged, I'd suggest that you run it a few times with just water on the deepest possible wash/rinse cycle.
Clean the filter out in between each cycle.

I'd then suggest running a decent hot wash with plenty of biological detergent preferably with a pre-soak of a few hours. That should break help break down any remaining feathers!

Take is apart yourself this weekend and save a service call. You will know all about the machine by the time you put it back together. As a music teacher once told me, "Show some initiative"!

Hi Darren

Sorry to hear that, it does sound like it might need replacing, I get the impression though that you would secretly like that!

Hmmmm maybe you could twist Mummy's arm into getting a nice Hoover HD?? I know you want one!

Hehehe....

My mum did exactly the same thing in her Elto 16000 when I was 6 years. It was feathers EVERYWHERE!!!!! My dad used a whole weekend to clean it! It's still working perfect, but it has new owners:)

Good Luck:D

hey Darren...
poor machine..muhaha..did you like it?I have a simillar and I don´t like it.
If you want to clean it, you should fill in water and then blow in the pipe where the water comes aut after the washcycle (I actually don´t know how the right word is, becaus I´m german)
I think that should help.

Much luck!

Darren

I once had an AEG that clogged the first time I washed the new bathroom mats. That wee drainage tube was clogged by fluff. I had to blow up it and allow the water to drain as best I could, until it blocked again.

I spent the better part of a Saturday morning trying to clear the cotton fibres away from the pump impeller.

The self-cleaning Vortex pumps, as fitted to the old Hoovers and Hotpoints, never had all this palaver.
