Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

This is the compressor capacitor - I think. Anyone know for sure? It has several screw terminals but it looks sealed otherwise. This was under salt water when the hurricane hit, does it need to be replaced? The fridge is working fine.

Pretty!

But I wonder, will the rust eventually eat through those steel pipes?

It could be a capacitor, but in that era, I would rather guess it is some sort of inductive coupling, similar to the Kliks-on we see on slightly more modern units. There is something very similar on the '47 Shelvador and it, too survived being under water.

Sealed, so I didn't open it, but none of my tests showed a response which would have suggested a capacitor.

Great job David! Looks very nice. Can those tubes be coated with anything to stop the rusting? Or will that even cause a future problem?

Paul, The fridge box was painted with whatever automotive paint the paint and body shop uses. I painted the three seafoam pieces with Sherwin-Williams all surface enamel acrylic latex.

Keven and Rick, I plan to use a wire brush on the tubes and paint them with chassis black.
