Indeed, it is very popular over in England, and has been for the last few years it's been on. It seems to have acquired a cult following which isn't often seen for series' such as this.
The impending switch from BBC to Channel 4 as Louis said has caused quite some uproar in the UK, however, out of the original presenters, only Paul Hollywood is moving to Channel 4, the rest of the team are staying on the BBC to front a new show, that we don't know much about yet.
It's quite a good move on behalf of Channel 4, as it's such a big show over here, that the advertising profits that Channel 4 should make will be very high, as advertising is forbidden on the BBC due to it being funded by the License Fee, a fee that every household with a television set in the UK has to pay, I believe it currently stands at £117.50 a year, which goes toward programming on the BBC.
