Hi all, Time for something different. We all know what our favourite washing machines are but what about our favourite noises machines make? Well normally, it would be the clicking of the timer or the motor when washing or spinning but lets concentrate on my favourite washing machine noise that you'll find interesting: The Drain Pump.

I just love listening to the noise a drain pump makes on a washing machine, it's like hearing a really good song on the radio if you know what I mean.

As you'll be aware, Drain pump noises vary on different machines from a continuous draining sound to a "Chugging" noise on other machines. I love hearing the latter one better in my own personal epinion!

My Miele makes a fast chugging sound when it's cleared but at other times, it makes the other sound while my Nana's Indesit makes a nice plesant chugging noise which makes it one of my favourite drain pump noises of any washing machine.

A drain pump on a dishwasher sounds the same but it's all the usual noises really!

So, The next time you use your machine, don't forget to listen for the pump and what it sounds like.

Any descriptions to what different drain pumps sound like would help greatly and see if you agree on whether or not it's the best sound there is on a washing machine.

That's all now!

I like the sound of my solid tub Norge and also the Thor when they are washing and the pump is pumping.
I also like the sound of the Westinghouse pump.
I first have to wait for some water to drain from the tub, then I can open the door and hear the pump.

Love the slurp, slurp noises made during draining when most of the water is pumped out and the pump is sucking a lot of air.

My favourite sounds:

My favourite sounds, is the pump on my Zanker 502TS, the washing sound on the same machine, the motor sound on my Asko20003....hmm....and washing sound on Zanker Intimat!

Various Drain Pump Sounds

Some sort of emilate a dog's heavy pant while others sound more like a big snorting creature. Others sound like a heart beating or like a ship or tssteamboat letting off steam.--Laundry Shark

other cool sounds

One of my favorite sounds was from a 1982 White-Westinghouse "New Generation" front loading washer that I had. (my favorite washer).

A gigantic solenoid kicked in for the spin cycle and pulled the drive belt tight against the drum pulley.

It created an extremely loud "clunk!!" that made one jump if they weren't expecting it (and sometimes even if they were!) It was fun to position someone near the machine when you knew it was about time for it to kick into spin.

Consumer reports even mentioned this little phenomenon in their test ratings.

GE filter-flo

I love the sound of a GE filter-flo, make no mistake. I love the sound of that powerful drain pump. When all the water is gone, you know what's gonna happen next, especially when the machine is set to normal speed. I love that clanking suspension and thundering cabinet. And of course, I love the sound of the spray rinse as well as the normal agitation.

forgive me

Please forgive me for being late to the party. Anyways, I love the sounds of the whirlpool direct drives, particularly during high speed agitation with the pump aerating water at 180 spm at 100 degrees arc. Youtuber Alex Krupkin's does an f humming during high agitation.

Perfectly Balanced Spin

Going from high spin speed to maximum spin speed (at the last 3 minute mark) of my Electrolux (70 series) Wave-Touch.
If the washer thinks it's not vibrating too much it goes into max spin speed if there is some vibration it will go into max spin speed and then drop back down to high.
If there's too much vibration, it will stay at high (even if maximum is selected).
