Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

The last sentence in the first graph

is distressing, but probably true. I do not love the Dyson (or any bagless cleaner,) but the Dyson is percieved to be a superior design.

(I would not have a Dyson, even if someone gave it to me.)

Based what I know, the article is correct, in essentials.

I am surprised that no one added "Beats...as it sweeps...as it cleans," and "Around the house...around the world."

Thanks for posting it.

doesnt *market leader* suggest sales? does the sentence suggest dyson OUTSELLS Hoover in most countries? and i thought Henry Dreyfuss designed the Hoover badge? (and btw, the badge pictured in the article is updated, technically NOT the same design as the original.)

He devoted his life to something that sucks better constantl

Hoover has since however been overtaken as the market leader by the British company Dyson in most countries throughout the world.

If I may be allowed to vote with my gut- I say this sheer fluff and wishful thinking.

first sentence

Probably true... perhaps not quite in sales, but in name recognition I would believe it...

off the BEATEN path

The 1st self-propelled vac was released in 1969-not 1936,it was a Hoover Dial-a-Matic,also Dyson sued Hoover awhile back over patent issues concerning bagless cyclonic design, and won.In Europe,I believe Dyson is undeservedly the upright leader. Here,it still is Hoover.

Wikipedia is supposed to be a living encylcopedia.

As a librarian, I find that it is not what I would call a reliable source of information, but it is an interesting site nonetheless.

Isnt it possible for someone here to help edit and expand this entry in Wikipedia?

From what I've heard~

Market-shares are close: in the low 20's for Dyson, in the upper 20's or low 30's for Hoover. Hoover still has the name recognition, and machine dominance (as far as vacuum clenaers go)... But Dyson has the pull, dollar-wise.

edit/expand

i intend to do just that! i cleared up some mistakes on the Joan Crawford site as well. of course, since i started this thread, i cant correct the mistakes i see right away. i also wanted feedback before i edited. for example, the mention about the *beater bar* is wrong. once again, someone has confused a *brushroll* or *agitator* with the beater bar.

What a mess...

{sigh} I do not think I have the strength to straighten out this mess of an entry. So many many many mistakes so little time. Please do not believe what you read here. Where are their fact checkers? Where did they get their information? Did they just make it all up to sound good? Who wrote this stuff? Please dear readers...again do not believe what you read here. From a historical standpoint, it is full of misconceptions so how could I trust what it says about the "D" word (you know which company I am referring to!!!). This article WILL mislead you...for the TRUTH contact the Hoover Historical Center at 330.499.0287 and get the truth about the history of the Hoover Company. It is a fascinating story really. Thanks David for bringing this to light.
