It might not be certain, but it is possible:

I did a load on Cottons 40.It washed and spun fine until i went to unload it.The clothes were soaking wet.I thought it was just unbalanced,so i selected spin and turned it on.However,it just drained and clicked round to stop without moving once.I selected another spin and it did the same thing again. In the end i gave up.I suspect a knackered timer.Last week though,it had stopped at the start of the final rinse.I turned it off and on again and it worked fine.

I really hope it is not broken.

Thanks

P.S: Is it a shot timer?

The problem could posibly be the capacitor. It's usualy in the rear right corner at the base inside under the outer tub.It regulates the power. If it is faulty, the motor won't rev up the tork for the spin.It could also be the electronic board that programs the cycles. The board is usualy expensive(around $200) but the capacitors usualy run anywhere fron $45 to $100.Good luck!!

so it does everything properly except the drum never turns?

If so, it is probably motor brushes. These are easy to replace and not expensive. It is a particularly common repair on these UK Hotpoint front loaders.

There is no capacitor on this machine as it is a UK front loading Hotpoint with a brush motor.

As Chris says, the carbon brushes have most likely warn out, this is a very common problem on these machines. Do not attempt to run the machine again until you have checked the brushes as you could cause the speed controller PCB to short circuit.

The brushes for these are very cheap.

Tom.
