Well, we just got it Monday. This is the house that the pipes froze in, then was abandoned for a few years. The water had ran in the house for 3 months before the city shut the supply line off.

We are cleaning the house out for renovations. All the furnishing were left in the house, and it is NASTY!

The tables were stuck to the floor in the living room. We busted everything up so it would fit in the roll off dumpster better. The dumpster rental costs $325.00, and I want to be sure everything fits with only one rental cost.

The boyz cleaning out the nasty kitchen cabinets. This place is a horrible mess, but will be a nice small home when it is finished someday.

The floors are ruined, and have to be replaced, the windows need replaced, and there is major plaster damage from the water in the bathroom and master bedroom. The heating system was hot water heat, and I am afraid that will need replaced also, because of broken pipes and radiators.

This will take awhile, and the first step is clearing out the junk so we can see what we have. (besides a horrible mess)

An Elvis fan!

Ah - radiant tube heating; that explains the large amount of busted pipes. Good luck on your endeavors Rick. Looking forward to see what else you guys pull out of that place (any old washers?)

Ben

BTW - just saw the vids of the Seeburg. I've never seen one of those in action. VERY SWEET!

Thanks Ben! No Seeburgs over here, but there is an early 1960's Silvertone console stereo in the back bedroom. If it works, I will save it for someone if they want it. If not, the boyz will scrap it for the dumpster.

The back bedroom (with the blue lampshade and the booze bottles) has been sealed off since the 1980's! The velvet Elvis lives in that room also. <:

The water was so high it ran out the bathroom window! Budder noticed it one Sunday morning when he looked out our kitchen window a few winters ago. There were huge icecycles running down the side of the house from the window!

What are the specs on the house?

Hi Rick, How many rooms, bathrooms, square feet and how old is the house? Do you know? Also where did you buy it, what state or city?

Thanks!
Kevin

The house is a two bedroom bungalow, with a sunroom on the rear.Seven rooms total. One bath. The stove is pretty nasty, and would need a total restoration. It is an old Magic Chef. It will be scrapped also. Most everything in this house is junk. Fridge is not that old, but still has food in it from years ago. Deante opened it once and almost killed us! The fridge is to be scrapped as well. I will purchase a nice used stove, and use the Westinghouse fridge that I got from Kenny for this house.
This house was built in the late 1930's, or very early 1940's. I know that it was here when my mom graduated high school in 1946, so it must have been built prior to the war.
I had not been in this house since the old lady lived there when I was just a kid. 1970's.
I am renovating this house as a rental, and if it is too much too much of a hassle, I will then sell it, and keep the extra half lot with our house.

The house is in Fort Wayne, IN and on the south east side. AKA, da hood. <:

If they can restore houses flooded with filth laden water in New Orleans, they can restore Rick's second house.

I'm amazed that the bathroom actually held enough water to flow out the window. Must have been pretty good construction when it was first built, and probably worth saving.

Good luck

I was wondering if you had bought it. It looks very salvageable. Keep the Elvis picture. I about fell out of my chair when I saw it. :-)

I wish you luck with the house. Maybe you'll find money hidden in the walls... LOL! You should have made the house famous and invited Discovery Channel's 'Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe' over to have him help clean the place out...

A few pictures since the house is cleaned out

Here are a few pixs of the house since we cleaned it out. We worked 3 days cleaning it out. The house has a floored attic, and it was full also. We found two guns up in the attic.

we filled the dumpster up, then had to put the rest of the junk in the garage. A few things will be saved, but not many. Will get rid of this stuff little by little each week in the weekly trash pick up. There is more stuff at the alley already, so had no choice....

front bedroom. Much worse than the rear bedroom. Lots of water damage up here.

boiler and water heater in utility room. I will put a washer and dryer in here also. 80's Maytag set will do just fine here for many years. Kenny will fix me up with those.

We saved these nasty ass fans, but will only use them after they are cleaned up somewhat. They will be used while renovating the house, then tossed also.
