Yes, and I doubt

he will open any stores, or an online shop.
Perhaps when you acquire a brand from a defunct retailer, if you are unable to supply any other retailers and make a profit, there is a tax loophole for up to 5 years to deduct as a loss to offset windfall profits or other taxable income, either normally, or upon retirement.
There is always a motive. I should ask our sons girlfriend. She is a corporate tax accountant. Or maybe she can consult one of their tax attorney's.
I think the same goes for all the empty mini strip malls and store fronts. Just way too many.

More stores closing

Sears is closing three stores in the Sacramento area. The other ones are probably going soon also. Some are surprised, I am not. I will not buy Kenmore because I do not trust the guarantee.

I agree with Martin, I wouldn't trust Sears now either. They just announced closures and property for sale of their 2 largest stores of n the San Antonio Texas area. I'm not sure where to be other, if any, stores are even located. What a sad end to what once was a fine organization.

They have closed the KMart and Sears stores in Maine. I think they ship whats left to Portland to liquidate and probably then go right away. Sears is just a fading memory of what was good quality, at the right price, everything you needed, but no more could you count on that. I grew up with Sears everything, Kenmore appliances, Homart furnace and water heater, even tires and all Craftsman tools, but no more Sears. [this post was last edited: 4/23/2018-20:53]

If somebody else buys Kenmore it all depends on who backs up the warranty. If it's someone reliable who actually cares about customer service who cares if it's still the value and quality most of their stuff is/was. I bought my Kenmore washer and dryer because they were whirlpool made and all parts should be readily available and cheap enough. The washer is out of warranty and already ate the tub bearings but a full rebuild kit with everything needed was 120 shipped. I'll redo it when I feel like it or it stops working OK. I didn't care about the warranty, just that they were well reviewed and easy to fix myself cheap. I was hoping the washer would last longer but other than sounding horrible in spin mode it still works fine.

True, but honoring the warranty

needn't be a problem. Whirlpool builds them, and can warrant them to any retailer.
Frigidaire is still around after all.

Sheyelekhem Leazazel...!

The whole thing will be like the rest of Firgidaire, Whirlpool, Amana, probably even Maytag:

Fall into Electrolux, and let's face it: A lot of classic brands are no longer with us, so if Kenmore is not going into the ranks of "sold at national retailers national brands", then it won't be unusual to see this one also go off into appliance history, get over it...!

Of course they don't warrrant Kenmore,

but they could, if they so chose to. Can't also means won't in my book.

Here is the Sears Holdings market pereformance. ^v^v~^~^v~v~^v________________
But then, the market as a whole has been nill, today at least.

Someone said they predicted Lowes would get the Kenmore brand, which makes sense, as they're getting Craftsman. I think Ace sold Craftsman tools for a while also.

I think it would be good if Amazon bought the Kenmore brand. Then they could take over the Sears repair and home services as well as the parts inventory. It would be appropriate, as Amazon is what Sears should have become, but didn't.

I have seen Kenmore vacuums selling on Amazon, I heard that was part of the reason Cleva wanted to take over the vacuum manufacturing was to sell them on Amazon.

Fast Eddie is just selling Kenmore to himself. He will sell it through amazon via sears’ Innovel delivery.
