Today's been a fun day. Gary drove up, Fred and Joe drove down, and together we retrieved my A608 from Ida's home for wayward vintage appliances.
My KDS17A dishwasher and the matching DG608 dryer will wait for a future move.
For now here's the washer in its new home. My Amana now lives in the neighborhood of Hooverland called the "choir room"
I did all my laundry tonight in the Maytag. What a spectacular machine!
Fred took a ton of pictures, watch for them here soon!
Thanks guys for a great day!

a machine like that DESERVES to be your *daily* machine! and a Whirlpool-style dryer, same matchup thats at my moms house. as Joan Crawford might say, "a hell of a match!"

Hello Clarice...

What fun you guys had - great to see everyone! Did you have 9 bottles of champangne to celebrate?

The washer looks great in it's new home, Jeff, I'll bet you had a blast washing that first "real" load in your own house! Enjoy your new machine - you'll be filling up the choir room in no time with cast off washers and then you'll be shopping for houses from the basement up! As Fred said, it's started...

Congratulations to Jeff and thanks to all who made it happen and recorded it for posterity. I love the caption to photo 35, "It needs to go up there." It's like something my brother would say. They say recognition of what needs to be done is half the solution. That little corner in picture 44 is so innocent looking, like the first flake of snow in what turns out to be a blizzard. Have lots of fun.

WOOHOO for the A608! One of my favorite Maytag machines. Considered the work horse of Maytag's. Jeff, You will spend hours on end watching it over and over and over. Like Greg once told me, (and is very true) "Every Load is Different"!

And hey mister, how did you get a stainless lint filter. Oh NO, A608 only had the blue ones. That came out of an A906 or A806 would be my guess? Let us know and enjoy your new machine.

Steve

Thanks guys!

David the "Whirlpool style" dryer is a 2002 Kitchenaid, I don't kmow the model, but its a MOL machine.

The sound of this Maytag is music, what I can hear of it anyway. If the dryer is running, the washer is barely audible. When all the laundry was done last night I had washed 5 loads. I am really happy with how well it works.

Bobby: The general agreement yesterday was that I need the dryer too. For now I will use this one, until I can have a look at the "guts" I know the dryer is safe at Ida's, in spite of the fact that she threatened to sell it if I don't put it into use.

Greg: You're SO right about the house shopping. Thats what I've been doing shopping for a place from the basement up...in this market here its not all that easy. I'd better save some more $$$

chrome lint filter

Steve,
That chrome filter(along with the control panel) are all thats left of the first Maytag Automatic my mom had, 1964 vintage. I forget the model #(GREG!!) but I save that piece when that washer expired in 1977.
Its too short to be an effective lint filter, but it looks nice!

Congratulations Jeff, I know what a beautiful machine this is from seeing it in person. She looks just beautiful in your laundry area. Glad that you were able to bring her home!! Have fun. Terry

Great pictures Fred, thanks so much for sharing your fun day with us. Jeff you really look "Butch" in front of that Dodge Pick up!! Terry

YAY for pictures!

First congratulations Jeff on the new member of your family! I'm so happy for you, now we can help you decide on what vintage washer number two will be (insert evil laugh here). and great pictures Fred, was that Hoover Twin tub the start of your washer collection as well? (insert even louder evil laugh here)

WOOHOO!!!! Congrats Jeff on your first vintage machine, and I'm thrilled to see you're having fun with it! Those Maytags are always fun machines; don't let the idiots who say they're "boring" convince you otherwise! :)

I wonder what Washer #2 will be as well...what you really need is an AMP!

Steve, at the Tucson wash-in, Roger's A608S (1976 model I believe) did have the chrome lint filter on it. Considering that it was as shiny/minty as the machine itself I wouldn't doubt that it was original to the machine for one second!!! Perhaps Roger would like to chime in...I'd be interested to know if this was OEM as well.

I Just Realized I Haven't Weighed In On The Day!

As usual, a great time was had by all. It was so much fun watching Jeff get his baby in the truck and home. That is one sweet machine. Quiet and purrs like a kitten. Still don't know why the owners sold them (for next to nothing!) By the way, that's just what I did, watch. Hmmmm, little Fred strapped to the dolly, I won't comment on that. And Jeff by the truck "Butch?" No comment on that either. This is a great family of appliance lovers. We always have a great time. Nice to meet Gary for the first time.

My contractor is coming over to do some work - running a 220V line upstairs for a vintage pair coming from Greg's in Omaha. The Neptunes will be relegated to the basement where the 806s now reside. Yikes!! It is dangerous having so much room in the basement. The collection of machines just keep on growing. Watch out Jeff, as I said, it has begun with you. Ha!

Fred

Okay, who owns the truck?

FABULOUS pictures men! Veda, you never looked more like a temptress strapped to that dolly. I don't have the washing machine bug, but it did look like fun.

Jeff, you must get the dryer in there too. Just explain gently to your father and I'm sure he will understand. An umatched set? Good heavens.

Looking forward to seeing all next month in St. Louis. Veda, remember to keep our secrets!

H.

Bottles of Champagne

Greg - There are a few bottles of champagne from the gala trip to Chicago left but I am saving that for a special occasion - perhaps the arrival of the special machines from Omaha?
