Here is where things change though... No more pilot light in this Halo of Heat dryer...

Hard to see, but this gas dryer now has an electronic ignition

I used two dryers to make the one workable dryer. One electric and one gas. The inside of the gas dryer was so corroded that it took two dryers to make one good one. No more pilot light, so that wont happen again.

I built these for my aunt. They like out in the country, and the power company charges very high rates becasue of that. So they had to have a gas dryer.

The washe was torn down and rebuilt as well. The paint on both these machines is original however. What a lot of polishing can get you..... <:

These were a score from Kenny (Goatfarmer) I have had many very nice machines over the years from Kenny.

Rick,  now that in one nice set of  Maytags. I know your Aunt appreciates all the hard work you put into them. alr

Hey Rick! BEAUTIFUL job, I am just amazed. Thanks for sharing, I envy you haha this is a fantastic looking set. Take care of them!

PS Excellent job on the dryer conversion.

Orifice question

No propane at their location. They do have natural gas service. Funny you ask about that, the gas dryer was set up for propane when I got it. I replaced the gas valve, orifice, and burner with an updated natural gas setup.

They have well water, and a cistern. They use the cistern water for laundry. Last summer when we had a very dry spell (like now) their cistern ran dry. So my aunt brought their laundry to my house every weekend, and washed in my vintage machines. She loved my vintage washers and dryers, so I offered to build her a set. I picked the Maytags because they are beautiful, and have such a classic look. They are also great machines, that will run for decades as daily drivers when given a full restoration. She was married in 1969, so she is an "avocado" era lady anyway. I call her an Avocado Affectionado now <:

Worn Out

My finish is flaking, I groan during roll over, my drain hose is kinked and it takes longer than it used to for me to hit 750 RPMs. Any chance you could put me in the shop for a Rickr make over? I love your work and you too.

Thanks for the nice comments everybody! I do enjoy rebuilding these, even though this time it was a lot of messing around because of the damage caused by the pilot light over the years. The standing pilot was a downfall of these otherwise really well designed gas dryer. It really takes a toll on the metal parts inside the dryer. I think it was worth the extra work though.
