the maytag washer dryer set in bewitche before switching to Frigidaire

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

The very first Maytag set was a 900 washer and a DE700 dryer. Later, they briefly had a 902/D750 matching pushbutton set before switching over to Frigidaire for the rest of the series. Their changes were probably governed by sponsors.

Weren't the first episodes set in an apartment before they moved into a house? They had that D&M portable with the window in front. It sat at the end of the counter at the audience's left. I thought it was a neat prop right out of a Sears store.

Thanks, Glenn

Maybe it was not an apartment, but just a non-decorated beginner house. That hairdo on Sheila, or should I say, that wig was over the top.  She was not a fast learner. I remember another episode with her tormenting Samantha out by the pool and a big dog and a hose and mud.  The set dressers installed the Maytag dryer on the proper side of the washer.

The photo is reversed. Maytag never made a HOH dryer with a door latch on the left. The 3 push button control switch and 2 button light switches on the console are on opposing sides.

Two episodes of "TBH" hint at Granny's gradual assimilation: Commerce Bank gifts the family with a television in the first season. Granny sees the screen before it is powered on and asks whether it is a washing machine "like the one we have out back."

In another episode late in the series, a woman bribes her with a fur coat. Granny decides to give it back; but being the gracious, neighborly woman she is, wants to clean it first, and commands Ellie Mae to "get the washer started." Just before that scene cuts, we see Ellie start toward the laundry room.

As to the topic at hand, I have seen the first two "Bewitched" episodes before colorization, and agree with CircleW that those Maytags were unshaded copper. RE: the house overall, I have the surmise that Darrin lived in a rented house. I'm guessing it's a rental because he's way too enthusiastic about getting the place on Morning Glory Circle. The house was quite nice, too, and way larger than what a bachelor would need. The living room appears to be the set from "Hazel" - same low wall dividing the living room from the foyer; same HiFi console on the living room side of that wall; same staircase going up to the second floor. The house was quite nicely appointed, too, as far as furniture and fixtures go. Nicer than how a bachelor in the mid 1900s would typically decorate his house, the other clue in my never-to-be-humble opinion that the house is a furnished rental.

General Motors was the only major appliance maker that sponsored Bewitched. Hence the Frigidaire appliances.

House that Samantha moves into after marrying Darrin yes, was his and a furnished rental. In his eager beaver push about buying house on Morning Glory Circle Darrin explains to Samantha they should have things of their own not just rented. This of course jives with the bug Endora put in her daughter's ears about mortals being "grounded" and attached to things; nose to the grindstone, etc... Samantha had no need for a washing machine, dishwasher, or anything else in that house. As Endora also reminds her witches live in music, upon the air, etc....

Darrin and Samantha had some possessions as evidenced by the unpacking after moving house to Morning Glory Circle. But furniture wasn't among them as Sam and Endora play interior decorator by zapping up various bits of furniture and furnishing (seen through window by nosy Gladys Kravitz).

As can be seen in pilot episode Darrin and Sam like any other newly married couple did receive gifts (sliver, china, etc..). These can be seen in last moments when Darrin and Sam come back from the infamous dinner party and Sam cleans up the kitchen via witchcraft.

Green MT Pair

In the first post were either painted or colorized as they did not make that color when those models were built, also the picture got flipped which is why the dryer door handle is on the wrong side along with the MT emblems on the cabinet fronts.
