The Miele Buzz

Hi everyone,
My G5105 dishwasher is making a odd buzzing sound. Sometime this buzzing sound will happen and the circulation motor will not turn on. Other times the noise happens while the circulation motor is running. Dishes are still coming out clean just not sure what the noise is. Any thoughts or clues would be great.

That is the sound of the motor stalling.

Either (as common on this series) the motor/pump bearings are starting to seize up, or maybe its just the motor capacitor on its way out.

Is the capacitor a replaceable part or does the whole motor unit need to be replaced?

Not sure, but I think its pretty easily replaceable IIRC. I think its just behind one of the side panels.

Might be mixing things up though, so no warranty on what I say.

It's only for the delay start facility. There is no running time indicator on this model. I know it seems odd.

Yes the machine is was running in the pic. Usually you get a buzzing sound a few clicks and either more buzzing or the circulation motor will start. The no display drives me nuts and is only for the delay feature.

Bear in mind these machines occasionally go through filter/ softener regeneration cycles that can make some odd clicks and buzzes.

If you’re not using the softener, you can turn it off. Check the manual about the salt indicator and you can set the machine to use multi action tablets.

Also is your water pressure ok?
Check the inlet filter on the hose to ensure it’s not blocked. Low pressure can cause an odd sounding very long fill. The buzz may be the solinoid open against low water pressure.

Here is a better video of the dishwasher buzzing and clicking. I noticed that the dishwasher circulation motor runs sometimes while buzzing happens. I do use the softener and it’s working fine. I hear it when it goes into the regeneration cycle and it works fine.

That sounds very like the capacitor gone.

The capacitor came in this evening. I will try and look at videos on how to repair it. Anything in particular that I need to look out for?

Of course, make sure the appliance is unplugged.

The old capacitor might hold a charge. While not dangerous, a shock from a motor start capacitor can be pretty nasty and hurt a lot.
So, before takeing it out, short out its contacts with something metal with an insulated handle (screwdriver or such).

Not sure if these capacitors have a polarity, but just in case:

1) Take photos of the capacitor while still connected to all leads.

2) Carefully compare the old and new capacitor and check if there are any markings like + and - signs, numbers or letters corresponding to a certain wire.

3) If there are any markings indicating a certain way of hooking the capacitor up, then follow these exactly and before connecting the machine to the power make 100% you correctly wired it in. If that capacitor has a demanded polarity, hooking it up in reverse will most likely blow up the capacitor, and cleaning that mess isn't nice.

The terminals that connect the capacitor to the wires can be quite annoying to undo and might require some force. There might even be small hooks on them that you have to depress to be abled to remove them.
A pait of pliers can help.
Just be carefull not to pull and tug to much on the cables to prevent any damge or wonky connections further within the machine.

Before closing up the machine, run a short test cycle checking that everything works. Just be carefull not to touch the machine in case something accidently shorted to the cabinet.

Be aware when you tip it onto its back that water will run out of the overflow in the bottom of the dishwasher. The only way to prevent this is to use a sponge or a towel and fully drain the sump.

Otherwise you'll need a Torx headed driver to get the base plate off to get in there.

Water valve solenoid?

So, I changed the motor capacitor this evening and I am still getting the buzzing noise. I took the motor Out when I changed the capacitor I spun the motor and listened with my stethoscope no bearing noise. While I was underneath I noticed the water valve has a solenoid. Could that be causing the buzz? I found a pic here on the forum and circled the item.[this post was last edited: 12/6/2017-22:06]

Is that the

mains filter/suppression capacitor.

Turn off the softener and see if you hear a buzz.

So after changing both capacitors, I still have the buzz. I have now ordered the water valve located on left side if dishwasher. I’m $250 into the machine and if this doesn’t work I will be carrying it over to the trash.

I mean, why trash such an expensive machine just because it makes a noise? As long as it runs, let it run...

Fear of the unknown is why. What if this part causes a fire? The plug is located behind the unit in Jr cabinet, so I cant unplug after each use. Also I’m in a long chain of townhomes. If My unit were to catch fire and set my neighbors home on fire I would feel terrible.

I have found the bee!!!

Turns out the buzzing is coming from one of the 2 water valves on the intake. I ordered the valve, now the question is how to get it out of the dishwasher. If anyone has the answer please let me know. Also is the water intake area supposed to be brown like that? [this post was last edited: 12/16/2017-02:16]
