The most quiet Kenmore motor!

About a month or so ago the motor on the 1960 Kenmore washer went bad. I had pulled it out of a 1970's model and it was a T-frame/cube design motor. I went to a used supplier and asked for one of the OLD style motors. They didn't have one, but he gave me a cube motor that he said was really quiet. It is the quitest Kenmore motor I have ever heard!! It's a cube type motor, but, I can barely hear the machine from across the room. And Kenmore's were never the quitest machines. Why is this cube motor so quiet?

There was a time in the '70's-----the 'Kenmo experts can tell us, when they were extremely quiet. These are very sought-after machines amongst the collectors.
I think there was some sort of "Quiet-Pak" that included a number of different components.

Delmer---What model is your 1960 Kenmore? I grew up with a Model 80. And you're right, quietness was definitely not one of its strengths. The matching dryer had the lint bag on top of the machine, which made the dryer twice as noisy as other models. I remember it being very loud in the laundry room when both machines were running!

I believe mine IS a model 80. It has the cycles from A - G. Wonderful machine! And with this particular motor, it is quite as a mouse.

Actually, I think yours is the Model 70. The 80 had pushbuttons with a rapid-advance timer. The 70 is often referred to as an 'alphabet' machine. Our next door neighbor had one.

I remember there being a couple of interesting cycle differences between the two machines. I think your light soil whites cycle washes for 6 minutes and ours was 8. And does your delicate cycle fill with hot rather than warm water? I can't recall the names of all the cycles on the 70. Either way, they both have the much-coveted waterfall lint filter.

My 1971 Lady Kenmore is VERY quiet... it is one of the best bd kenmores ever imo, an absolute workhorse. (and a blast to watch!)

It's hard to imagine a dead quiet Kenmore. My family was loaded with Kenmores--up to a Lady Kenmore--and I'm using a late 60s Kenmore now.

Still, I don't mind the sound of appliances running. I have never been able to understand why people want a dead quiet dishwasher, for example. There is nothing so relaxing as listening to a dishwasher work, and realize...I'm not the one doing the work!
