Please visit the link (or just go to vintage fun stuff and click on the multimatic clutch). I understand how the clutch works, basically with the reversible motor the clutch "screws" its way to either the agitation pulley or the spin pulley. It also says the motor is a single speed! No where does it say how two agitate speeds are produced and two spin speeds are produced... <img src= http://www.automaticwasher.org/SMILES/S1.gif>

So what am I missing????

This was scanned and posted to aid in the repair a two speed machine so it was only a single speed motor. The "four" speed machines had a two speed motor and a similar clutching mechanism. To achieve the Rapidry 850 rpm spin speed, there is a fork-solenoid mechanism between the upper and lower pulley that transfered the power from the motor running at high speed to the spin pulley.
