The new amana frontloader

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

personally, i am still as drawn to the design
as i was when i saw my first neptune

but it has no window

therefore, i predict it will sell only a respectable amount
if it is very aggressively priced

this is my favorite FL design of all time.
Not sure why, but I really like it and wish to have one someday.

Oh no, not another Amanatag!

Please note that the first thing on the list of features is the "Antimicrobial Component Protection" to prevent mold and mildew and odor causing bacteria.

Maybe the average consumer won't notice that these are rebadged Neptunes......

Remember Anita Bryant and Amana?

What to call them....

If a Maytag-branded Amana was an Amanatag, that would make these..Maymanas?

Nope. Don't like it.

I propose "Amaneptune."

Anyway, these washers growing on me. The more I think, the more they seem to represent good entry-level front loaders. (Why would Whirlpool keep the design if they weren't confident in it? It's not like they don't already have a two or three other front-load designs they could slap an Amana label on.)

I still have it stuck in my head the days of when Speed Queen and Amana machines were one in the same! (Early 90's).

For some reason when I think of Amana, I think of refrigerators and Anita Bryant. Hmmmmm........

While Mayamana sounds good, I think these could also just be FL Amanatags. (Amana Nameplate + Maytag Design).

But then again, an Amaneptune seems appropriate as well.

What does everyone else think?

IMHO, WP will keep the design because they actually sell quite well in the commercial coin-op world, and there are already thousands of them out there in use, so they need to keep parts available. By regailing them to the Amana brand, they keep one foot in the domestic consumer market.

Hi Gary,

The reason why there is no window in the Neptune is because there is a vibration damper assembly mounted in the door with springs to help cancel out vibration from high speed spin.
Hope you are well.

John

Windowless Neptune

Gary,

In addition to what John said, there is a solid metal plate between the outside of the door and the plastic inside area shown in your photo, held in place by the springs. When I look at the heavy glass doors on the Duet, the Epic, and just about everyone else, the question keeps coming up "If we can put a man on the moon, then certainly ...?

Anita Bryant or Carmelita Pope?

Are you SURE it was Anita Bryant for Amana?
I do remember Carmelita Pope and her gravel-like voice.
(growling)"If it doesn't say Amana, It's not a Radarange".

Beside that, I bet they're continuing this old design under the Amana nameplate primarily for parts persistence.
...I wonder if the master-craftsmen of Whirlpool got their mitts into the mechanism and "freshened" it up a bit? Do we have a winner here hiding under the Amana nameplate?

"Make the greatest cooking discovery since fire...&quot

Definitely Barbara Hale...because she appeared in the first Amana Radarange commercials in 1967 (the year after "Perry Mason" went off the air)...and she did some Amana fridge commercials as well, but after Amana went into other appliances, she went into retirement...

I stand corrected.

You're absolutely correct. It was Barbara Hale.
Now I have a dilemma.
I KNOW Carmelita Pope did appliance commercials. But for whom?
Could BOTH Barbara Hale and Carmelita Pope shared the role?
I'll do my homework and report back.
Thanks for the correction!
