Not that many machines actually allow to add something, even with it paused.
For example, Electrolux, Whirlpool, and Samsung often have verry low safety levels that disable any unlocking.

I don't get why they just have a little button though that tells you the add wash is closed because you could just press it in and let the washer carry on with the add wash open

if I can't access my laundry in mid cycle for whatever reason, I don't want that machine then.
I own a top load Whirlpool product. What I've heard about front load Electrolux and Frigidaire (same company) machines here, I'd never buy one. Fancy "wave touch"
controls, but cheap inner workings. They also paint them nice teal, and candy apple red. If I want nice paint, I'
ll buy a car.

Its usual for Europe to have blocked doors. And actually, the ELux company over here produces good, money for value products. Not upper quality, but certanly not bad.
From reading the manual, it either seems to interupt the cycle with an error code when the AddWash door isn't closed, or it is actually locked. Not quite sure, but they will have to have some safety mechanism.

It's another gimmick yet again from Samsung. It's hilarious how they describe it as revolutionary and new. I hate to break it to you Samsung, but our Miele will open at almost any point of the program if it allows us to. What's daft about this is you still need to pause, and it will only open if the water level is low and the temperature is under 50. So in that regards its no different to opening the door. I wouldn't have thought a flap would require those criteria. As the Samsung rep says, it's only suitable for the first 20 minutes.
Oh and the opening is tiny, definitely wouldn't get a jumper in there. Completely pointless if you ask me, much like everything Samsung do.

The watet level does not matter, acording to the german manuals. And temperature restrains HAVE to be in place. So does the pause requirement. Imagine a little kid, pushing that door open mid boilwash cycle.
And sure, you most likely don't want to add something 10 minutes before the wash phase ends.
And I doubt you just forget to add a jumper, hoodie, what ever. And though this door isn't big, I could see me putting jeans, shorts, and even a medium sized hoodie through there.
