OK, OK... now that the other photos are ready.......

My Parents (mom really) had a PINK Maytag A700 washer in the kitchen as I was growing up and I have fond memories of it, with it's console and tub proudly lit. It lasted for many, many years with only one major repair, a tub seal or bearing. But did they call the appliance repair man to fix it? NO! My parents did the repair themselves!

In my late teenage years the pink Maytag was replaced (by me) ONLY because I wanted a larger capacity machine to my laundry in. I found a used, late 70's or early 80's center dial machine in harvest gold! That one lasted until a few years ago when it was replaced by a WP Duet.

So Tuesday against my better judgement I searched Craigslist, first for Kenmore, then Maytag. I then came across this ad saying "Maytag washer/dryer (Hollywood Hills) with photos. As soon as I saw the washer in the photo I KNEW it was the same as my Mom's, but not in pink... AND there was a MATCHING DRYER! OMG! I called almost immediately. The guy said he posted the ad 3 days prior and I was the first call!

It turns out this guy and his girlfriend bought this house after a guy who lived there for 40-50 years, died. The gutted the house and are remodeling it. After letting the washer and dryer (and wall oven, cooktop, dishwasher, vent hoods) sit outside in the car port the last 3-4 months, he decided to put them up for sale.

So I drive up to look at them, but by the time I got there, no one was there. Fortunately I was able to go around the back of the house to get to the car port and there they where! WOW.

I had NO idea there was a "pilot" or operating light on the washer!!! I only remember the fluorescent light!!

Below from top to bottom: the console (obviously), with the fluorescent, with the fluorescent and the "pilot" and finally, with just the "pilot" light!

Again, WOW!

I must also note: Many, many THANKS to Russell (imperialmarkxii)!!! Without his help (and his truck) they would still be sitting in the Hollywood Hills! Thank you Russell!!!

Wow, they are nice Maytags, just Timeless. Someone mentioned in another thread that "maybe the recession" has contributed to folks selling off items they no longer need. I agree. again ... Nice TAGS alr2903

Kevin - love the staged lighting shot. Very cool idea.

Both appear to be in awesome shape. Hopefully they are in just as nice shape mechanically as they are cosmetically.

Are you able to pull the agitator out?

A700 vs A702 question.

The A700 (of which this is a beautiful example) and A702 are very similar. If I am not mistaken, the A702 has a fabric softener dispenser cup that the A700 does not. Are there any other differences?

Wouldn't mind having one myself,
Dave

So much damn envy.....and jealously. Been looking for a pair of these for 2 years now. Hell, I've been trying to find parts for my 702 for a year and a half :(

Absolutely BEAUTIFUL!

I must agree the Appliance God is smiling down on some of us. That is a gorgeous Maytag set you have there Kevin. Will we be seeing a video anytime soon?

Jim

Your Very Welcome Kevin!!!!

What can I say except that it was an EXCITING adventure YAY!!!Although I'm still not sure who had more FUN,LOL!!
What I will say is LOVE this web-site, (Bless You & Thank You, Robert). Love my Chevy, (Silverado, that is!)AND LOVE THE HOLLYWOOD HILLS!!!!
I'm hearing that once popular song in the back of my mind that goes something like this "Hollywood nites,In those high rolling hills, she was looking so right,in those diamonds and frills"....
Anyone out there in washer-land know (remember) who did this song?? Anyway, almost any excuse will get me to the hills.
But a WASHER? All I can say is this: HAVE WASHER WILL TRAVEL....LOAD IT UP,STRAP IT DOWN,HIT THE HIGHWAY/ROAD, COWBOY! lol...

Thank you so much for all your wonderful comments! I am so very pleased to find this matched set!!

Ben, no I have not tried to pull the agitator out... not sure I want to. Yes I need to inspect both of these before putting them into service, but I'm not exactly sure what to check. Suggestions?

Jim, YES the Appliance Gods have definitely been smiling down on MANY of us here recently!
