Picked this up yesterday, from a very nice person who saved it for me. Yes, it still works, beautifully. I traded the owner a modern Whirlpool dryer for this beauty........

Data Plate.........I believe this is approx a 1966 ~ 1968 model. Philco and many other appliance makers offered a stripped bottom of the line model to appeal to a few buyers, but also to bring people into the showrooms so as to try and bump them up to a more expensive (and more profitable) model. This is of course a PHILCO-Ford product.....

The owner graciously offered me the original owners manual and installation instructions, along with one for what must have been the companion washer to this dryer. The washer (alas) was long gone, but at I was thrilled to get an original Philco-Ford WASHER manual too!

It is indeed very rare to find one of these dryers still working. They all had an inherent defect in that the fan blade would crack and "throw" a blade into the plastic shroud housing and it would break into bits. I have one of these Philco dryers presently working, but I do believe that most that are still intact had replacement fans and shrouds installed. At least I hope so! I guess time will tell, because I sure intend to use both of the Philco dryers I now have, a lot!
 
Texan Air Conditioner

I would love to get some pictures of the old Philco Ford Texan Air Conditioner, my parents had 3 of them. Last one died in 1986 after two self repairs for a frozen motor.

I hope you did not get to depressed when you had to trade that newer Whirlpool dryer for it.

Thanks Peter......do you still have your Philco dryer from Aberdeen? I got mine running, but it took three dryers to make one good one! They ALL have broken fans and fan shrouds! Im so pleased the one pictured here is still good.......
 
Congrats Jimmy!

I'm finally getting a vacation and am spending the first part of the week appliance hunting. I already made one trip home with 2 beautiful Frigidaire dryers. From Wednesday on, I'll be at the York train show. I've been calling and poking around the Philly suburb area for 2 days and have absolutely NO leads on Philco parts or appliances for you. I found another Frigidaire lead, but I think we're full of Frigidaire parts now.

So have lots of fun with your Philco!

Philco Ford!

Nice Find Jimmy I Know how much you enjoy the Philco's And to get the owners manual as well! Thats way cool It's amazing what some people keep around ! Its funny though it seems like the older I get time seems to fly by! And some of the things I think are Fairly "New" are 20 years old LOL. I'll always have a love for "Ford" Products .

WOW, the only thing cheaper would be a clothes line. I can't see the wattage on the name plate, but it would be interesting to see if Philco did like Sears and Frigidaire, putting a lower wattage heating element in the low end models. Maybe they used a smaller heater in this one to lessen the fire hazard with the plastic door. Frigidaire even used a smaller blower. Frigidaire probably used it just like Sears did as a way to move the customer to a more expensive dryer. Given the timer location, it's easy to see where a coin box could go for commercial use. It's nice that yours is late enough to have the metal lint screen. Originally Philco used a nylon sock-shaped lint filter. Consumer Reports found the lint filter location very inconvenient to access for cleaning. This dryer's door is what came to mind when I saw those Bosch dryers with the plastic door plug instead of a window.
