I wonder what ever happened to those?

Does someone still have someone still have those hanging around their house?

In some dusty attic? A showplace in their living room?

makes you think...

LOL!!!

That Italian was not the best in the world, but it was close, i wish around back then, i would have gone and did that for them..

Holy shitballs, these prizes were ugly.
I guess the entertainment in a barrel concept never caught on.
Still, TV was experimental in those days, so they could have done anything, like a washing machine enclosed in nuclear protected coating to resist the communists.
It was a strange time, 1960. Kennedy tried to bring us out of the dark era but ended up locking eyebrows with Nakita Krushev himself in a missle crisis.
But the culture of the hidden electronics is so spy 60's espionage that I could not help commenting. Also, didnt a lot of tvs and stereos have covers to them and screens or doors to disguise them as furniture?

The barrel stereo thing reminds me of the 1960's popular barrel furniture. I remember a game room set that has a barrel with a top for a card table and the matching chairs were made from smaller barrels with the seating area covered in ...gasp...naugahyde!
J.C. Penny sold them. Anyone remember those?

My grandfather handmade a child's chair for my mother out of a barrel, it's covered in green naugahyde. I used it when I was a child too. I wonder if that was where he got the idea...

heheheh

barrell chairs are alive and well here in South Dakota in a little old bar in Deadwood,Sd called saloon number ten.

Some are (gasp)orange
Some are (bigger gasp) Red
and all are (Ass hitting floor gasp) naugahyde.....

Ugly? yes! Perfect for an old time western bar? Yes!
COmfy ? BIG YES

Orginal idea? I hear tell at this particular bar they date back to the 20s

And why is any of this familiar to you?

The bar is saloon #10...the very place where Wild Bill Hicock got killed while playing poker. IN his hands aces and eights thus the deadmans hand

Deadwood...hmmmmm? THINK HBO....yep its the same town!!If any of yall make it this far ID gladly set you up.
