The Speed Queen FF7 is great!

I like to watch my front-load washers work. My new Speed Queen FF7 is kind of neat/odd. There's no water visibly pouring in - maybe I'm missing it? - but the clothes get wet and clean anyway.

Coming from my old top-loader, this thing is amazing!
1. Clothes come out noticeably softer.
2. There's dramatically less dryer lint - maybe 1/4 as much as before.
3. My clothes need additional cleaning after the struggles with my old washer; I'm using the Stain Boost option on every wash for a while.
4. The capacity on this is really nice. An entire hamper of towels went down easy. Two rather flat comforters - one king, one queen - washed together with no problems.

Downsides/cautions:
A. The machine does shake a bit as it ramps up for a spin. I'm glad I had it installed and levelled.
B. The detergent cup isn't completely dry after a wash. Check it and maybe leave it open to air-dry after use.
C. For me, with 2024-era Tide powder detergent, it was very much worth filling the detergent cups*. I tried to skimp a bit on my first load. Things didn't quite as clean as they should. Later loads, with the full amount of detergent, came out *great*.

* Only fill the prewash cup if you use the Prewash or Stain Boost option.

You now own the best washer money can buy. It is a true commercial washer made available for home use.

When I got mine in 2016 I noticed the same thing switching from a top loader. Always leave the door and soap drawer open when not using the machine.

That SQ washer paired with your top filter WP dryer will give you great performance for many years.

The cons aren't really cons if you ask me. A little water won't hurt a thing.

And yes you will have a lot less lint than with the Shredpool. There's just no comparison between a front loader and a top loader front load being far superior in cleaning.

I wished the FF7/DF7 was still available in stainless steel, that's one of the best looking sets I've ever seen and probably would've gotten it back when they were offering a 10 year warranty. But why bother spending extra when you can get a white one that's exactly the same thing? Same goes for black as well. While I do like the looks of black more, I still would buy the white one instead because it's cheaper.

It works well! I've been using it for everything except whites so far. The long, high-speed final spin is great for getting water out of clothes.

I've been considering.....

....the FF7 (and matching dryer) to replace my 1987 Kenmore Limited Edition Electronic pair but $5000 for a washer and dryer - YIKES!
I can see the washer costing a lot due to the complexity but for Speed Queen to charge the same price for the dryer seems like highway robbery to me.
I also read many unfavorable reviews about Speed Queen on the Consumer Affairs website which really put me off the idea of purchasing ANYTHING from Speed Queen.
Spend $5k and get little to no customer service from Speed Queen (Alliance)?
Not encouraging......

You could always spring for the Speed Queen FF7 if it's your wish to do so, but buy another brand of dryer. The Whirlpool-sourced dryers with the lint filter on top are still readily available. They are the cheapest dryers you can get but in my opinion they're all one really needs in a dryer. They have good air flow, dry well and fast, and are relatively gentle on clothes. One of those could probably keep up with the large load from an FL washer easily. I can see myself maybe owning an FL washer someday, but I doubt I would ever get any dryer but the 29-inchers from Whirlpool as long as they are available.

Oh I don't know. One would hate to get only one machine, and then the other conks out like a year later because you didn't just replace both, especially if both machines are around the same age. Also, a lot of appliance dealers will sell the pair at a greater discount that if you just bought one or the other.

I will say that, although I like my VMW washer fine, I regret replacing the direct drive machine. It was a smidge better for a myriad of reasons. Should have just replaced the dryer or repaired the timer on it, as John suggested months ago. But, done is done.

New Speed Queen front load washer

Yes, it’s a shame that Speed Queen along with every other manufacturer prices the dryer the same as the washer because they know that many people will buy both at the same time which really makes no sense at all.

Your 1987 Kenmore dryer is probably good for another decade dryer last a lot longer and can be repaired reasonably economically even if the motor goes bad it’s only two or $300 to fix it.

You should be able to get a better price than $5000 on the pair on Wednesday. I delivered a new Speed Queen front load washer and are delivered installed prices $2057 plus tax. Also should be able to find a better deal if you shop around. You should not have any service problems if you have a good local dealer, I will admit that I don’t think I’d wanna pay $2000 for a dryer next.

Washers and dryers are very different animals. They do not fail at the same time so it makes little sense to replace them at the same time unless of course you just want to replace every appliance in your house at the same time which makes about as much sense as buying washers and dryers in pairs, lol

The Speed Queen dryer is very good and very repairable. It’s a 30 to 40 year machine but a good whirlpool or Maytag dryer will also last you 30 or 40 years. You can also buy the less expensive Speed Queen dryer where the controls are in the rear about $700 cheaper and it’s the same dryer.

When I got my SQ FL

My cat sat in my lap and we watched it wash clothes until 3 a.m.

I also had a SQ top loader at that time. I never used it again. Right away I saw that the FL did a much better job, got clothes noticeably cleaner, and with so much less water and detergent. So a friend begged me to sell the TL to him. I did, and I’ve never missed it.
