The status of the Ogden Laundry

On the eve of our departure to Australia for the winter, I am already missing the 'Ogden Laundry'!
While we're away, our handyman/caretaker will start to remove the raised floor in the basement Laundry area. I'm not the betting type but I'd be willing to bet that the floor is thoroughly rotted. The previous owners were fond of the 'quick n cheap' version of renovations... If all goes well, my washers will be on a solid cement floor instead of the spongy false floor. The Unimatics and the notoriously shaky 64 GE Filter Flo will be thrilled.
AND... there will likely be a washer changeover. I do like to swap things around and I have a 57 Hotpoint washer, and the "new" pink 60 Frigidaire Deluxe to play with. I think it is also time to get the 56 Whirlpool Imperial set back on active duty.
In the current line-up, I have issues to resolve on the 55 Frigidaire Pulsamatic, the 59 Frigidaire Multi Matic, the 57 Frigidaire Control Tower Unimatic, and that got-danged 57 GE dryer. I also need to do some tinkering with the 58 Philco-Bendix Duomatic - it takes a very very long time to dry and I suspect a condenser issue.
Well, I won't be bored when we get back in April, right?

What a distinguished collection in your new room~

Hi Paul,

Fascinated by the evolution of the GE species evident in Pic 3: The lighted higher upper panel, declining and the side toggle switches, advancing--what a handsome machine. It was the transition model which I hadn't seen before.

Envious of your Pulsamatic; it's one of those defining childhood machines for me, my adored Grandmother Margaret's. Played with it the whole day long. One summer when it awaited a new fill valve, and had to be filled with the hoses manually for weeks--OH what a PITY that , but not for me, lol--, hooking the hoses to either side of the lid, and of course thus inventing Frigidaire's soon-to-come spray rinsing, it was washer boy paradise.

Hope you and Chris have a splendid time in Australia. A big hello to the folks from there we met at the D.C. museum.

That's the same as the Canadian version of the 64 GE dryer, which I do have! I got the washer and dryer as a set a few years ago.

Nice lineup, the end result should be pleasant when done.

Will you be moving the appliances out before the work? I would recommend that. Most people naturally grab the control panel when moving an appliance as it's convenient and it'll flex then bust the glass/plastic panels on models that have it. Best not to be trustful and have disastrous results.

Fear not, the fellow who is doing the work is A: familiar with how to move vintage appliances B: has helped me pick up appliances on more than one occasion (including the 64 GE washer and dryer set) and C: now owns a vintage Maytag set that I reconditioned for him and has a newfound appreciation for vintage everything!

to hear cement is coming! My Control Tower loves the cement floor so does my Gyramatic !!!!!
