The summer that wasn't rolls to a close....

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

One thing I miss about southern Calif is the Santa Ana winds. During fall, it can be 55 or 60ºF and calm at night, then all of a sudden this strong, hot, very dry wind starts blowing from the east, or sometimes north. It's almost mystical. It sounds like 1000 freight trains rolling over the hills and valleys, and it blows every bit of marine layer, clouds and smog away. All that remains are crystal clear jewels of the city lights.

Unfortnately we don't get Santa Anas here in Northern Calif. We have an equivalent wind event but it's much weaker, half the time you don't even notice it.

Well Jeff, guess it's time to move back then. ;-)

Here in LA, the summer that wasn't in certain parts of the city has become the summer that is (and for me the summer that just needs to go away). Happily it sounds like I will get my wish in a few more days.

We get so few hot days here I can suffer through it, I feel much worse for people dealing with these awful fires all around us. Even here in the city my car is black with soot and it's hard to breathe.

The hottest it got here was 90. Lots of evening showers, heavy enough to cause a few rock and landslides here. The mornings damp and around 70.Tradewinds keep most of the "Vog" (smog from the volcano) to a minimum but the hot summers I'm accustomed to, like Florida and Texas, are fea and far between. The only downside is the damned mosquitos!!

Broke a record

NYC morning news station reported 21+ inches of rain so far this season, making it #3 wettest summer ever. Average temperature in the upper 70s still hasn't made it into the top ten coolest.

Anyhow, I made my reservations today to visit South Florida in November, after hurricane season ends!

I like it HOT!!!

The hotter the better. Bring on the century in the old scale and bake me baby! I am soooo over winter. Even though we've had a reasonably mild August with a couple of summery days, the nights are still freezing. As soon as the sun goes down so does the temperature.

The only good thing about cold weather is a comfortable, warm house. Warmth gives energy, vitality and appendages don't shrivel. My preferred attire are flip flops, a t-shirt and baggy shorts. You can keep your jumpers, skivvies, turtlenecks, lumberjackets, longjohns and business suits.

For all those here who lament the summer that never was - I wish that next year will be HOT for you in every possible way.

Here in Sydney as soon as the mercury hits the seventies lots of folk crank up their aircons and whinge. My advice is always the same - stop your griping, move to Tassie and let me enjoy the heat.
