Hi hooverac216,
Your e-mail address seems to be invalid; if you email me with an alternative address I will be pleased to send it to you.

Must go now it’s almost 4AM here in the UK

All the best.

Hugh: Could see a few problems for the Dyson washer in the US-It would have to be designed to run on 120V 15A circuit.Thats what most washers in the US run on.That would make it difficult for a heater and running the motor(s) at the same time.In US homes-one could have an electrician run a 240V 15A line to run the machine with the heater. The 2600W heater would be impossible to run on the 120V 15A line.Is the machine temporarily out of production to move building it from UK to Malaysia? Most people in the US would not want to pay $2100 for a washer. to be honest I sure don't want to.I would use my vintage machines or even take the clothes to a laundramat. The $2100 price will price it out of the typical US market.I too love the TL machines with the tradiational agitators. Just what I am used to and like the shorter cycle times. The water use means nothing to me.Water is the least expensive utility in my area. But the counterrotating baskets sounds intesting though.Do both of them spin in the same direction when the machine goes inot its spin cycle?I was assuming that the baskets would. And you would think the counterrotating baskets could distribute the clothes effectively for spin balance.Too- one the motor drives-would there be a motor and belt for each basket?I don't understand how it would work by driving a common belt with two motors. And it is a pretty and attractive machine- Dyson LOVES to produce COLORFUL products- matches his vacuum cleaners.

Hi Rex,
Yes the voltage difference would certainly be an issue if the Contra Rotator is to be sold in the US. As for the price I doubt it would be marketed at $2100 I just made a price conversion from Pounds Sterling to US Dollars based on the £1200 UK launch price that I paid for my machine. There were also two cheaper models available with less features available priced at £1100 and £999 respectively and the price of the machines were later reduced by as much as £200. Also bear in mind that goods in the UK cost much more than they do in the USA, VAT is charged on almost everything even heating fuel at 17.5% and the tax on Gasoline and Diesel is nothing short of criminal.
The Counter Rotation is only used during the wash part of the cycle the drums lock together during rinses and of course the 1400 RPM spin (Spin speeds are reduced to 500, 800 or 1100 RPM on delicate cycles depending on the program selected).
The twin main motors drive a single belt which turns a single drum pulley, the Contra Rotation is achieved using an epicyclical gearbox which Dyson claims is as strong as a cars gearbox, it needs to be strong as a lot of torque is required to spin the baskets in opposite directions with a soaking wet load of laundry (7Kg 14Lbs Dry weight cottons capacity).
The purpose of the Counter Rotation is to provide much shorter wash times without compromising on cleaning and stains removal performance and it does work. It provides superb cleaning with fast cycle times but it's still no match for my Whirlpool Agitator Top Loader.
Regarding production unfortunately it is permanently out of production in the UK and the Dyson engineer I spoke to said it was not going to be produced in Malaysia, he said it was not going to be produced again as it was not making any money. I think its sad because it is a truly unique design like all Dyson products.

All the best.
Hugh.

Speed or cleaning

Hi David,
I mean cycle times, both machines clean superbly. I have no problems with stain removal in either washer. I used to do laundry for my elderly great aunt (She has sadly passed away at 98 years) she was doubly incontinent so I had heavily stained laundry to do every day. My Whirlpool Agitator Top Loader got everything spotless clean and fresh using a cold pre wash followed by a 10 minute hot wash with high speed agitation 180 oscillations per minute. My aunt’s carers often asked me how I got everything washed so clean again, I told them I used my Whirlpool American Top Loader.

All the best.
Hugh.

P.S.
I must go to bed its 6:10AM here, this site is far to addictive LOL.

that is too bad Dyson isn't going to build their washers anymore-does sound like an interesting and unique design.and even effective.Would like to see that epicyclical transmission.Well-think the fate of it was sealed if the WP TL machine could clean as well and in less time.I have a BD WP Imperial TL machine in my 3 washer collection.Very pleased with it.when I looked at the transmission in it-looks like something you would see in a car or a small tractor. Its got to be over 30 years old and still going strong. As long as the oil in it doesn't leak or get contaiminated-should run for??much like a projector transmission. It would have been interesting for them to introduce that washer to the US market and see how it does-If they had other models as was pointed out-probably would of had a chance.

Dyson video

Hugh Thanks for the video!

What's washing in the Dyson video? Is it a Duvet? It looks very puffy or maybe that's just the wash action. It reminds me of my Maytag Neptune TL which simulates hand washing like the Dyson. The Maytag sometimes tangles the clothes when washing; say a large load of only jeans in the long sturdy cycle. That's partly because it only turns in one direction. It sounds like Dyson took care of this by locking the two tubs together on rinse. Does the Dyson tumble in one direction and then in the other like other front loaders on rinse? Do you have the tangling problem with the Dyson?

To see the Maytag in action, click the link, and at the end of the video click "view the demo" under "the Maytag Neptune Top-Load washer:" at the end of that video click "cleaning & care" and at the end of that video click the middle of the tub "rotating tumblers" and you can see the action.

Maytag Neptune TL Washer

Hi Rex,
Sorry for my late reply, the next time I pull the Dyson out to clean behind it I will take the back off and get an inside shot although you wont be able to see the transmission as it is behind the drum pulley but you will see the belt and twin motor setup.
The transmission in my Whirlpool Top Loader although compact it is very strong looking and thankfully it has never failed me. It gets a lot of use but I never ever overload it.

Hi Jeff,
You are most welcome for the video, I think it’s either coloured bed linens or the matching drapes I forget which. It does not puff the load up when it contra rotates it tends to make the load look smaller; it is a very interesting machine to watch.
Thanks for the links on the Dyson site the first was the one and only TV commercial shown in the UK at launch. The second link shows the development story and the testing of the CR01.
I love your Maytag Neptune TL Washer I would really like one but unfortunately Maytag does not export them to the UK. I would love a video of it in action of that is possible it’s such a clever design. You mention it tangling jeans on a long wash and asked about the Dyson; well the Dyson does not tangle as it reverses drum direction frequently during contra rotation and also when the drums are locked together during rinses. I think what Maytag have achieved with the Tumble Clean Wash System is very clever and provides a real answer to low water consumption and great cleaning in a Top Load washer, how does it compare with an agitator washer on cycle times?

All the best.
Hugh

The Dyson washer demo video-very in teresting.Got sort of a glance of its transmission-looked built into the tubs behind the drive pulley.Could sort of seeing the price does match the sohpistication of the washer mechanism.
Will be interesting to see how long my WP Imperial holds up-a truely "Best Buy" from the swap shop near me.They can run into some interesting appliances now and then. They told me the very vintage ones are rare around here-say early 60's and 50's machines.

Hi Hugh,

Thanks again for the video. The Dyson is truly amazing.

The Neptune TL's cycle times are comparable to an American front loader without a heater, even though the TL has a heater. The selectable wash times are 24 min. stain treat, 19 min. heavy soil, 14 min. medium soil, 9 min. light soil, and 4 min. freshen. After the wash it spins w/ short spray, fills & rinses w/ bleach, spins w/ short spray, fills and rinses w/ fabric softener, spins w/ short spray, and then fluff. After the wash it takes about 42 minutes. This means a "normal" 14 min. wash takes 56 min. Not too, bad considering the dry is less.
