Maytag Neptune TL Washer

Hi Rex,
Sorry for my late reply, the next time I pull the Dyson out to clean behind it I will take the back off and get an inside shot although you wont be able to see the transmission as it is behind the drum pulley but you will see the belt and twin motor setup.
The transmission in my Whirlpool Top Loader although compact it is very strong looking and thankfully it has never failed me. It gets a lot of use but I never ever overload it.

Hi Jeff,
You are most welcome for the video, I think it’s either coloured bed linens or the matching drapes I forget which. It does not puff the load up when it contra rotates it tends to make the load look smaller; it is a very interesting machine to watch.
Thanks for the links on the Dyson site the first was the one and only TV commercial shown in the UK at launch. The second link shows the development story and the testing of the CR01.
I love your Maytag Neptune TL Washer I would really like one but unfortunately Maytag does not export them to the UK. I would love a video of it in action of that is possible it’s such a clever design. You mention it tangling jeans on a long wash and asked about the Dyson; well the Dyson does not tangle as it reverses drum direction frequently during contra rotation and also when the drums are locked together during rinses. I think what Maytag have achieved with the Tumble Clean Wash System is very clever and provides a real answer to low water consumption and great cleaning in a Top Load washer, how does it compare with an agitator washer on cycle times?

All the best.
Hugh

The Dyson washer demo video-very in teresting.Got sort of a glance of its transmission-looked built into the tubs behind the drive pulley.Could sort of seeing the price does match the sohpistication of the washer mechanism.
Will be interesting to see how long my WP Imperial holds up-a truely "Best Buy" from the swap shop near me.They can run into some interesting appliances now and then. They told me the very vintage ones are rare around here-say early 60's and 50's machines.

Hi Hugh,

Thanks again for the video. The Dyson is truly amazing.

The Neptune TL's cycle times are comparable to an American front loader without a heater, even though the TL has a heater. The selectable wash times are 24 min. stain treat, 19 min. heavy soil, 14 min. medium soil, 9 min. light soil, and 4 min. freshen. After the wash it spins w/ short spray, fills & rinses w/ bleach, spins w/ short spray, fills and rinses w/ fabric softener, spins w/ short spray, and then fluff. After the wash it takes about 42 minutes. This means a "normal" 14 min. wash takes 56 min. Not too, bad considering the dry is less.

Dyson video

Neat action, but where's the water? All I could really see was wet clothes tumbling around

"Neat action, but where's the water? All I could really see was wet clothes tumbling around"

That's how modern frontloaders work. Use little water, yet still manage to clean superbly. Some say it's a bad thing but IMO lower water levels are an improvement over older FLs with higher water levels. However as far as rinsing is concerned deep is the only way for me to go (thank goodness my AEG and Miele washers able me to programme that in...)

Jon :-)

More Videos

Hi Chris,
Yes I will do another one this time I will do a heavy load of towels on the 85ºC Cottons Cycle. 85 degrees Celsius = 185 degrees Fahrenheit. I have just done a full load of towels in my Whirlpool Top Loader so it might be a couple of days.
All the best.
Hugh.

Yeah could u puh-leeeeeeze do more videos.

I would have expected the wash action to be more rough and the clothes would actually tumble. Is that a duvet or blanket or something along those lines? It looks like it mainly turns the clothes horizontally.

Is it your CR01 or what?

Hi Shanon,
yes it's my Dyson CR01 Memory. I will organise another video, I tried the other day but I forgot that the washer was on and I missed the contra rotation part of the wash cycle.
All the best.
Hugh.

That is the first time I have seen a Dyson in action with laundry in it. In many of the stores they have them working on empty for some reason. Do the clothes get very tangled particularly duvet covers and sheets etc 'cos from the look if that video, the laundry seems to be corkscrewing and getting very twisted?

Hi Hoovermatic,
The Dyson does not tangle at all and is very gentle on the laundry. It does not matter if you are washing large items or small or a mixture of diferent sized articles nothing tangles.
All the best.
Hugh.

Shanon,

What makes you think that? I thought it was over for the washer for good. Did you hear or read it was coming to the US?

A Big Thank You

Hi Allen,
A big thank you once more for hosting the video download. I really appreciate your help in making the file available to everyone.

All the best.
Hugh

Contra Rotation

Hi Louis & Chris,
Yes the Dyson only contra rotates during the beginning and the end of the wash cycle, at all other times the drums lock together and rotate as one.

All the best.
Hugh

Re: Dyson Info:

Hi! Hugh, thank you so very much for sharing your wonderful knowledge of info about your great looking Dyson Washer. It is my most favorite Colors for the Accent of the Purple and Yellow and I think that they go together quite well. It is too bad that the production had to be stopped, due to interest being down, but it is quite a high price to think about paying for even this sofistacated Washer and the idea of how it Washes the Laundry, without getting tangled. That is what is so amazing about the Dual-Rotation Tumbling at the same time of 1/2 of the Tub in opposite directions all at once, then reversing the Rotation. Keep up the wonderful sharing of your great "UK" Laundry Appliances, it is always great to learn about other areas production ideas and how they operate.

Peace and Happy Dyson Washing, Steve
