Rich and I spent last Saturday at one of the most exciting places we've been to in ages......There is a private salvage yard and Rich has made friends with the owner Mr. S (for Mr Scrap, I think) and arranged for us to be permitted access to his yard. Up at the crack of dawn, drove thru the hills of PA and met Rich so we would both have vehicles to load and haul stuff home. All I can say is its beyond words what is at the place! It really is the best yard since the Aberdeen Farm yard that I have ever seen. So I guess its kind of an East Of The Rockies Aberdeen..!! Way off the main highway, thru several back roads, here we are in this photo driving thru the winding access road back into the woods.....

The excitement was very high when our first find along the road was a Frigidaire 1957 Control Tower dryer! I could see Rich hit his brake lights.....A great way to start a salvage hunt!

On the way in we met with Mr. Scrap, AKA Joe, and stopped and talked. (like we had a choice! The road is so narrow only one way is drivable in. Joe LOVES to talk and is a great guy)

Done with our first chat with Joe, back on the road in. Off to the left was a Norge dryer, and a GE washer that looks like it had a tough life........

Off to the left was another dryer, this time a very very late model Frigidaire dryer. On top of it was written Mr.Scrap Joe picks up the trade-ins and old machines from several different places. This dryer most likey was one of them, and probably had bad electronics and was scrapped because of the cost of repair.......what a shame to see this sitting in the woods so new and nice looking..........

More and more, I think there are about 100 acres here. But in contrast to Aberdeen which is mostly flat land, this yard is very hilly and mountainous and there are large clusters of appliances here and there and everywhere. The eyes cant seem to take it all in at one time!............

Rich found this, his second find! Frigidaire MOL dryer, in surprisingly good shape........Notice the 1-18 set on the right.........True to his word, Mr S put all the Frigidaire items for Rich off to one side of the yard, but it still was quite a hunt finding them...........

Closer view of the 1-18 set. This is a late build GM logo 1-18 set. We didnt pick this set up yet, this may be a pick up on our next trip to the yard........Actually looking close at the pics they really dont match. The matching dryer was in the yard, only over another big mountain of appliances.

Joe has cars in his yard too, from late model to early 40's. Most of the earlier cars are in pretty bad shape. But some are actually quite complete.

WE both let out a loud yell when we found this! This went home with Rich and its almost mint condition. When Rich got it home and plugged it in it still worked! Yeah! Things like this sure make the trip worthwhile.........Notice ANOTHER 1-18 set behind the Filtrator.......

Off to our left was this rare find. Happy Hotpoint! I think this is about a 1955-1956 style Hotpoint cooktop, in stainless. It was in great condition. I played with it for a few minutes until Rich told me to stop and get back to work finding more washers!

So, play time over, this is the set that was behind Rich's new Filtrator. This is a rather rare 1-18 set that has programmed controls...........This set was a little dirty, but otherwise was almost MINT. Rich pointed out that it even had water in the tub, which is a good sign on a 1-18, it means the tub is holding water with no leaks==good pump/bellows/seal/etc. This set went home with me........Yeah!

Now at this point, I had a fall. Camera in one hand, tools in the other, climbing OVER and UP and DOWN and THRU stacks and stacks, I fell and dropped the camera. I was in about 2 feet of mud and the lens got splashed, but I didnt realize it until I got home and looked at the pics. Of course, the smudge HAD to be right in the middle of the lens! Here, going up to the upper 40 acres, was a Hotpoint Top........
