Someone on this site posted a while back that they installed or had installed a thermostatic mixing valve to increase the temperature of the incoming cold water for the laundry connections.  I am insterested in maybe installing one myself.  Can you post information on which valve you installed and perhaps how it works?

Thanks

Plumbing supply store.

Contact a plumbing supply store, not Lowe's or Home Depot. While I'm sure this valve can be used to boost cold water temps, make sure it can work at temps that low. I've seen them in commercial applications where 1 water heater needs to put out 2 water temperatures. If I ever install my own plumbing from scratch, that's what I would do.

I would have the water heater at 160 with water that hot going to the dishwasher and laundry, and a mixing valve to get 120 degree water for all showers, bathtubs, and sinks. I'm curious though. What is more energy efficient to run? A 30 gallon water heater at 160 with a mixing valve setup, or a 50 gallon water heater at 120?

Good luck,
Dave

Thanks for the information.  I'm still doing research as to whether this is something I want to undertake.
