Murder to get a pic of the rim fill **because the lid switch is impossible. I ended up, after many attempts, snapping the shutter, then lifting the lid. Success! Maybe the Ph. D. Speeds Queens here know about this, but I was rooting and hooting, almost didn't believe it. We have to get one in the club and film this gem with a bypassed lid. Really fascinated. Yogi & Washman & Members: Did you know about this feature?
Tried so hard to get the spray rinse. I failed. Next time.

Well...
They have performed this way for years. Except they are closer to a Hotpoint Rim-Flo filter screen than a jet spray.
The water enters at the 3 o'clock position or maybe it is the 9 o'clock and fills the filter screen/clothes guard. Creating that effect as water trickles in all the way around.
The spin spray was effective at cleaning the filter ring from back in the day when the SQ machines had the recirculating lint filtration.
( My Amana machine did the same thing, BTW )

My aunt Molly had the vintage SQ SS overflow, and my sister Lynn has the SS modern version; hers fills and sprays from a flume at noon. No drama. These are the only two automatics in my orbit. I'll have to get up to speed. This pictured machine is on the roof terrace above the 4th floor, and the water pressure was low. I was imagining how amazing the rim flow must look with both valves open at high pressure and "all ahead full." Discovery awaits. Only a recent regular at Deluxe, I missed all the pics, vids, and hoopla over this dramatic version in the Speed Queen lineup. What fun is in store.
Thanks for the photos, mickeyd! Didn't realize SQ had anything but a standard flume fill. Yet another example of SQ's large share of the commercial market.
this has to be the Raytheon version.....even after they did away with the RimFlo design, they still incorporated this clothesguard/filter....the fit was so tight you could not get your fingers in there, although a big help in reducing the chance of clothes entering the outter tub....
this video is of the same design...with enough water pressure, it will send water all around the filter area, and somewhat saturate the whole load.....granted during spin, not much is hitting the clothes versus the 1-18 circle spray

I noticed the Energy label on the lid of the Marathon machine in the video above. I wonder how it compares to the energy consumption of the machines offered today...
Annual cost to operate seems higher on this machine than the current offerings which is curious as the capacity is larger in our modern machines.

Current SQ TL Washers and Energy Use.
While the tub is bigger in the current SQs compared to their 1980s machines SQ has made many improvements to reduce energy usage.
Current SQs use a 30%-70% [ hot-cold ] inlet valve instead of the 50-50 valve that 80s machines used.
Current SQs do not have an energy wasting warm rinse option at all.
Current SQs spin faster than 80s machines.
Current SQs also have reduced the maximum water fill level a few inches, many studies have shown that few consumers put full loads in TL washers yet often have set the water level on maximum fill size.
We have heard from our SQ distributor that major changes will finally come to SQ TL washers by early next year to further reduce energy usage.
These changes are likely to include, and electronic control system similar to the SQ FL Machines, an option for spin rinsing, higher spin speeds, an electric drain pump and electronic water temperature control.
They will retain a conventional transmission and agitator wash system.
As a dealer I am really looking forward to the new machines, these changes should make a really good washer better yet.

Sorry that the pic is so poor BUT....
Can you see the slits in the rim of the tub? They go all the way around it. The fill and spray rinse are equally distributed throughout; there is no main outlet. Did what you are calling rim flow have actual slits like the 1-18 or did the water simply flow, waterfall style from points along the rim? Or is this SLITTED circle fill & spray system unusual.
Even with low water pressure -- the machine took forever to fill a very large tub -- the circle jet spray was arresting. Again, this is all new to me, I'd love to know more about it, and I really apologize for my lack of knowledge or any confusion created.

Mickey....sorry to say....I don't think your missing anything special about those machines....
the slow fill was more blame on the flow restrictors than anything...
I don't think there were any slits, it was just a rimflo screen design, still in use for these models, even though the filter flo was no longer in use....and the 4 port pump was reduced to 2....
IMHO.....Raytheon really killed Speed Queen until Alliance took over....
