Agreed with regard to both of the above posts....gall, seller being mad, and they would indeed be lucky if someone took the thing off of their hands. $10,000..seriously!

Let's demonstrate some gall and make an offer of $ 10.00 with free shipping.....boy don't you know that would cause a stir..ha.

Some people have their head in the clouds and view items like this as "Antique Roadshow" merchandise.

Yes, it may be old, yes, it may be somewhat antiquated, but there's NO WAY it's worth $10,000.00

that machine sold for around 150.00 new

And DOES not even have a thermostat. Temp is regulated by turning gas up or down. And it was well before any saftey features were even added. Simplex made ironers well into the late 70s mostly for smaller tablecloths 54 " ect and napkins.  They were also used in some smaller hotels such as the one pictured .  There were 3 different models made for many years.  a 56" a 60 " and a 72 inch machine. most could be fixed so that one operator would feed and one would fold by pulling the work of the back of the table instead of the front. There was only one ironing speed on many of the machines which was 10 fpm  Feet per min.  in later years there was hi and lo  10 and 18 fpm..

this is what one of the last models looked like

This model was one of the last Simplex ironer produced in mid 70s and sold for 3000.00 It was a 2 speed model and did have  a thermostat for ironing temperature. Work could be folded at front of rear.  Many used equiptment dealers have some for sale in the  300.oo range.

Have Seen Several Of Those Old Simplex Ironers

Pop up on fleaBay, none sold so one assumes they went to the great scrap heap in the sky.

All were listed as being "found in the basement of this old house we just bought".
IIRC, one was upstate NY, the other in or around Newark, NJ.

Least the seller is offering "free shipping"

For 10K I'd want not only free shipping, but installation, lessions, and a several year long service contract.

Not to berate him but, my Dad has the same mentality "It must worth alot because it's old." No Dad, age does not necessarily make something more valuable, UGGGHHH.
