Michael and I are in North Canton for the weekend to visit Tom, and as we were leaving breakfast at the hotel this morning I spotted this on the cover of the local paper.
I didn't realize they were selling the factory...
If anyone has not ever seen the main Hoover factory, its a beautiful place, and smack in the middle of North Canton.
I know we'll be going by the place here and there, I'll be sure to grab some pics!

That IS a very lovely building. Like a step back in time. One of the facts of life that has really hit home (as i leave my 20s behind and mother is in poor health) is that change is always. Time marches on. Ruthlessly.

Are there ex-Hoover employee organisations? Would be wonderful to somehow involve some of Hoovers devoted old-time employees in the 2008 gathering. Maybe some vintage photos or group discussion with the older folks who were there when "The Hoover Cleaner" was the best there was.

Brett,

Me thinks it's a sign of the times, while recently in St.Louis, we passed the Chrysler plant (i think they still make the minivan there), used to be glistening white with the Chrysler star in a Blue color that just popped out. It just looked kind of dingy and worn. I guess its just the natural progression of the times, kind of a shocking thing to see. Lots of Lost paychecks too. arthur

Hoover factoryt

That is a really nice looking building, and it is sad to see the demise of Hoover as an entity.
I understand that the Hoover vacuum division is now owned by a Malaysian company called Techtronic who here in Australia also are the parent company of the vacuum brand called Vax, although the Vax range are still built here I believe.
As a kid I still remember my mother's old Hoover lark with it's famous slogan it beats as it sweeps as it cleans.
Thanks for the photos they are nice.
Cheers.
Steve.
