As most of you know, I recently acquired the Thor Automagic that was located in Rhode Island. When I acquired the machine, the motor would turn on and the pulley would turn. However, the transmission seemed to be frozen as nothing else would happen.

Not really having a lot of time to work on the machine, it has sat in my basement since acquiring it. I have occasionally looked at it to try to get it going, but no major work on it.

The other day I started to notice a strong smell of oil in my basement. It seems my Thor has decided to let go of a tremendous amount of clear, very pungent oil on the floor in the basement. Is this from the transmission? What should my next step be with this machine, shy of sending it to the scrapper and cutting my losses?

Any input would be helpful.

how do you love it

How passionate are you towards that machine? That mess will require a rebuild of some sort since some gasket has dried out and let go. You'll need a manual to track it down ,maybe somebody has a manual here on the club.

I had my thor for many years and played with it but they arent' Bendixiii thats for sure. My washer time goes into my Bendixzz.

I think I would offer it to club before I scrapped it, I think there are people here who could use the parts or take the time for a total restore.

Jetcone,

I was really hoping to get this machine working, but I think you're right. This sounds a lot more complicated than I want to try and tackle.

Will listen to more suggestions before I decide what to do with it. Certainly, if I decide to get rid of it, I will offer it to club members first before even considering scrapping it.

Well, so far, after a few clean-ups, my Thor continues to leak oil. The interesting thing is that the oil is perfectly clear and does not appear to be used and burnt at all.

By any chance, does anyone in the group have a service manual for Thor Automagics? I would be willing to pay for a copy of such manual. I know it's a long-shot, but I'm thinking this is going to be a complete tear down and rebuild and I just don't have the expertise for that. I'm hoping with a service manual, I can figure it out.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi Ron,

I have a manual. I do not know how to scan so please provide your name and address and I will mail a copy to you.

Ron,

With Rich & Chuck coming to your rescue, how could you not get it back in apple pie order?  Good luck my friend!

Hats off to my good friend Ross for his generosity as well!!!

I just have to get myself to the East Coast for one of your soiree's, or maybe one of your "Candlelight Suppers" ala Hyacinth Bucket! lmao
