Thoughts on this Kenmore Dryer

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

I believe those EvenHeat or auto-sensor boards are NLA (or outrageously expensive if any new-stock are available).  There are used and repaired choices on eBay when I've looked for some of the numbers, and some board-repair services may handle them.

I wouldn’t get this dryer, a pain to put the belt on the tensioner, has a tendency to ball up blankets and loads of laundry, and the lint filter is kind of awkward to get to compared the the 29” top filter dryers.

That dryer may have a few more features than the current Kenmore 70 series dryer but the features you really need on a dryer is a temperature options and the ability to turn the buzzer on and off and auto dry setting. Your Kenmore 70 series dryer doesn’t have the wrinkle guard feature option but if you want to have a quote on quote “wrinkle guard”, just use the Permanent Press auto dry since it has the cool down feature. Most Kenmore Elite washers sold in the early 2000’s were paired up with 27” dryers since most people bought it as a set but some were paired up with a 29” top filter dryer since they were cheaper or most people preferred the top mounted lint screen which was easier to clean etc. compared to the front mounted lint screen on the 27” dryers with the hamper door which was a little awkward to clean at times compared to the top mounted lint screen on the 29” models.

I wouldn't be afraid of it but $250 seems high unless it really is *pristine* and low-wear on usage history.

My mother had a 1994 KA with board (current) P/N WPW10476828 (don't know if it's the same as EvenHeat), never failed in 18 years of use (sold it).

My 1990/91 KA dryer takes a similiar? board P/N 3398084 which didn't fail for the duration of myself and my grandmother using it.

The model of your consideration isn't stated to determine which board it takes.

You must make your own informed decision.

Whirl pool built 27 inch clothes dryers

These came out around 1988, Sears really wanted a model that could be vented in four directions and be narrower than the 29 inch machine because they lost sales to GE Frigidaire, etc.

These 27 inch dryers are very well-built in fact of the best built 27 inch dryers ever sold in the US as Dan said even Samsung and LG both copy the basic dryer.

That said the 29 inch dryer is still a superior machine overall the beauty of the 29 inch dryer is the lint filter. It’s the only lint filter that doesn’t make a mess when you clean it because you clean it with the machine running and all that dust goes outside. No other dryer can do that,

The 29 inch dryers also the only dryer that never clogs up the only lint accumulation you ever get in one is a little bit of the filter housing. You can just take a brush while the dryer is running and clean it again the dust goes outside

The 29 inch dryer is the only dryer ever made where the blower never clogs , it has large fins on it that just expel the lint

The 27 inch machines have a lot more trouble with lint because of all the internal ductwork and a much finer closely space blower wheel fins. You have to take them apart regularly and clean them never has to be done on a 29 inch dryer.

A 29 inch dryer Also has a more efficient tumble pattern, the rear to front airflow on the 27 inch dryer tends to go right through the middle of a load things don’t dry as well in many cases

These 27 inch even heat dryers do you have a board that can fail? The board can be rebuilt by course centric‘s, but it is an Extra potential problem, I’d like the models without this board for reliability but the boards don’t fail that often and it may have already been replaced.

John, others have told me for years the same as you just said, you can clean the 29 dryer lint filters with the dryer running, but I've never figured out how that helps. Explain it to me like I'm an idiot, because apparently I'm missing something. I still get dust all over my dryer top when I try it that way. Also, I'm not sure how much of the dust would go outside in my case because as we've previously discussed, I have a hella-long lint pipe that has two 90-degree bends and then goes up to the second floor wall that's where the exit point is. I'm not sure why the hell they did that as there's an outside wall right behind the dryer, maybe they want all the dryer vents in my building to terminate at the same location?

While the machine is running, a vacuum is present in the filter ductwork and sucks some of the lint away from the being dispersed on the top of the machine. The downside is, the duct work will clog twice as fast using this technique. I can confirm that with experience.

I think cleaning the lint screen on the 1966 and later Whirlpool 29” dryers only works if the laundry area is located on an exterior wall since there isn’t much of a duct run.

I do advise to NOT clean the lint screen on the 1965 and older Whirlpool 29” dryers or else you’ll have lint flying everywhere and had that happen once with my 1963 Whirlpool Imperial dryer 😂.

Come to think of it, I think the real reason why Whirlpool changed the design in 1966 is they didn’t want their dryers to be known as a S’ Wonderful S’ Marvelous S’ Whirlpool dryer since they tend to accumulate lint inside the cabinet and the area it’s in similar to a NORGE dryer of that era with the positive air flow at the lint screen.

Hi Ryne, normally when you clean the filter with the machine running, you do it at the beginning or end of the cycle you should be able to feel a fairly strong suction of air when the filter is removed. Some lint will fall on the top of the machine, you just take the back of your hand, and whisk it toward the opening and it will be whisked outside.

When the inside of the exhaust duct is dry at the end of the cycle or at the beginning of a load, no lint is going to accumulate inside the ductwork lint sticks together when there’s very humid air going through the exhaust system during the main part of drying clothing.,Just like a vacuum cleaner, hose will not clog with lint in fact, using this filter cleaning technique actually keeps the ductwork cleaner as the particles help loosen other particles and caused them to be discharged,

There is such a lack of common sense and engineering in this country. It just amazes me the things I hear either here or on the Internet. People are afraid to use their garbage disposals because they think it will clog drains when in fact, it actually keeps the drain pipes cleaner.

They just have no concept of how things work.
