Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

very cool Gary

I could see using that as a fryer, not that am all that into deep frying, but something that would have multiple uses would be cool.
I don't deep fry often, but that would come in handy, and be way better than what I currently do, which is on the stove.

Something about a big pot of boiling oil atop an open flame that makes me kinda uneasy...

Ohhhh Gary, tell Jeff about the French Fries your neighbor made.

Self imposed rule: Thou shalt not put or leave anything on an electric stove unless it is actually cooking at that moment.

Self imposed rule:

Gee Steve thats a great rule, since I am notorious for having stuff boil over, I should put it in place huh?

now you know why I have the fire extinguisher!!!

Ohhhh Gary, tell Jeff about the French Fries your neighbor m

My neighbor made french fries on her smoothtop stove, put the pan(so she thought) off the burner and proceeded to eat them in her living room. A bit later, she smelled smoke and ran back to her kitchen to find the pan of oil flaming. The fire took over her range hood and started up to the cabinets. Her husband was there at the time and got out the fire extinguisher, not before he took the flaming pan over to the sink and caught the curtians on fire. There was not a great amount of damage due to the fire, but, there was considerable smoke damage. I viewed the damage the day after the fire(I was home at the nite of the fire, and she lives right down the street from me. I heard nothing that night, even though there were several fire engines roaring to the fire) and although her range hood was damaged, the cabinets above the range hood were a bit charred. There were visible signs of soot present in all of her kitchen.

She did not realize that even though you turn a smoothtop burner off, it still continues to give off heat for a long time.
Guess it will be a while before she does french fries at home.

I thought I heard an echo in the cranium.

Dumber than a box of rocks. *LOL*

Pink Floyd.

Hello, hello, hello
Is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me.
Is there anyone at home?

YIKES!!!

Man Gary thats one scary story...

Making fries on Saturday night I used a bottle of canola oil, heated in my big 4.5 quart stock pot.

The first batch of fries really bubbled up, to within 1/2 inch of the top of the pot...
I remember thinking that if it went over I'd be F**KED...

I am not doing that again thats for sure, I'll buy a deep fryer.

Toggle babe I will never let you set eyes on my stove, you'd be horrified for sure!

PS one of the ignitors no longer works because a pot boiled over...

Spark gap on most electrode type sparkers could use an emery board and repositioning to have the same size gap (look like) the others.

Glow bar on a Tragic Chef between the burners in lieu of pilot? Cant help you there. Although the one-piece uniburners on a Tragic Chef could get some Easy-off (lye spray oven cleaner), a rinse and a baptism by dishwasher. The aluminum will discolor a bit, but some steel wool soap pads will rejuvenate! Oftentimes the tiny holes down the burner (when you have open burners) leading to the pilot flash-tube just need to been pin-pricked open. (oh hush!)

I'll buy a deep fryer.

Glad you are thinking safe Jeff.

I have a deep fryer(were you surprised that I had this 'gadget'?) and I believe that it is much safer. The coils immerse down in the oil(like in the restaurants). The bowl is completley removeable and washable.

I don't think it is worth the risk of doing french fries stovetop whether it be coil, gas or smoothtop range.

Thanks Gary, I definately do NOT want to burn the kitchen up!

Cooking the fries stovetop was my idea, as I had Pillsbury buttery crescents in the oven.

Toggle: Stove is a Kenmore, vintage 2001. I've had the oven ignitor replaced once.
I believe it was made by GE. 3 of 4 surface ignitors work, the left front does not, so I light it with a candle lighter(thats the burner I used most) can this be fixed?

I'm thinking based on pics we saw, vintage and 4 ignitors it has sealed burners. So if it failing due to a prior spillover......

Scrub the living hell out of it. Maybe some Easy-off if you are careful not to get the ignitor. Rinse. Scrub with a steel wool-soap pad, rinse again.

Finish with Windex (We use it for everything. You can even soak your elbow in it afterwards, should it hurt! (Ducks and runs)). Let it dry and try igniting with a candle lighter(Scripto lighter with a spout).

I have never seen a gas burner that was "lost" due to muck that was irretrievable. Oh depending on the manny, check to see if your orifice *COUGH* (a hole in the center ususally under the burner cap) is free fo obstructions and food chunks. There may or may not be one visible. "Ca depend!"

Again I'd dandpaper the spark electrode LIGHTLY and re-position for results.

Rotsa Ruck!

Grams set the stove on fire one night trying to make fried green tomatoes... This was in her first house here in nc also... She charred the stove, range hood, cabnits, countors, and floor... I have seen pics and it wasn't pretty..

Also we had a neighbor whose house burned down because she had made donughts and did the same dumb thing as garys neighbor with the grease.. She then LEFT and the pot of grease caught fire.. Buh-Bye House... Her husband was not happy

TOGGLE, I LOVE YOU!!!

I just "fixed" my two dead right burners on my Tragic Chef!

With a SEWING NEEDLE!!

I removed the "Uniburner" (Good God...) as you directed...got a little confused, and "pricked" every hole around the burners!

About one out of ten had a bit of obstruction...

Got a surprise when I saw blackened, charred dust from the two big gas pipes all over my fresh, white T-shirt (oops...)

Placed the "Uniburner" back in...neither would light...

THEN I spied, with my little eye, those elusive little pilot holes....and I PRICKED 'EM with my needle, yes, I did....

And they WORK now!! Thank you so much...

Now the only "Tragic Chef" in my kitchen is me.

Danemodsandy -

I got my replacement Electrolux hose on eBay from a seller in Baldwin, NY by the name of Vacuums2buy. That seller has an eBay store with lots of goodies inside, so check it out and maybe you'll find what you're looking for......
