After my chiropractor appointment this morning, I decided to stop by the Hinds Hospice thrift store to look around. As I was walking through, something large and green caught my eye. If I had the storage for it I would have bought it and the next thing I found. So I figured I would at least get pics. It's a 606 Halo of Heat.

Electronic sensors

The inside was in great shape. The outside wasn't too shabby either. I would have got a picture of the serial number to determine the year, but there was stuff on the dryer and in front of it. I had the door open as wide as I could get it but I couldn't contort myself enough to get a close up of the serial number. You can kind of see it in these pics.

Looks like 1/2 down from a 712, which was, I believe, the TOL at that time. A Maytag oddball, maybe an 882. I have some cut sheets on some of these; let's see...not quite this model, but you get the idea.

If that washer has full stroke agitation, I'd be all over it.

The dryer has to be older than average.  It has the pilot light over the dial.  Hard to beat an electronic control HOH model, but as with any dryer they're at their best with a clean lint screen, and that one appears to have been ignored -- which makes me think those two machines weren't donated by the same person.

MT Washer and Dryer

Those machines are spotless and probably came from the same home, the one loads worth of lint that is still on the dryers lint filter means that the dryer probably still works. Most people do not clean the dryers lint filter till they are ready to dry another load.

MT A712s were TOL around this time but they did not offer a 2nd rinse option, 2nd rinses were and are a great waste of water and cause a lot of additional wear and tear on the clothing and the washer and are generally not needed.

This is a long stroke clothes destroyer, the later MTs with the orbital transmission and Load Sensor Agitator are not only more effective at washing big and small loads, but are MUCH easier on the clothing. [ Maytag knew what they were doing when they redesigned the transmission and the agitator ].

It is not a model down from the 712

I think it would be model A710. The top of the line was the A810. This was the series before the 12 models. The 10 series had the ivory buttons and timer knob and are from about 1980 to late 1984. The 12 series switched to the brown buttons .
