I just went to Wal-Mart and noticed that Tide is reformulating their liquids to a more concentrated version. They had Tide 2x liquid in HE and Mountain Spring Tide with Bleach. The 200 ounce bottle/52 load sells for $12.88. Since it is so much more concentrated, line 1 and 3 were on one side and line 2 was on the opposite side. Arm and Hammer has also reformulated their liquids.

I also was at Wal-mart yesterday and noticed this as well. I also looked at the entire isle of detergent and there are several, with 2x concentrated formulas now. Tide, Arm & Hammer, Sun, Extra. I opened a bottle of Tide 2x HE and smelled, still smelled the same. Poured some into the cap, didn't look any different or thicker. When I came Home, I went to the Tide website, and there was no mention of the 2x formula. For a short while, Tide was running commercials that stated "one capful of tide has 3x the cleaning power of the next leading brand". So I was just wondering if they just rebottled the same stuff, or is it really more concentrated. I'm also waiting to see if they do this with the powders too.

Tide

Tide has always been more concentrated than the rest. That's why a little goes a LONG way. Regular Tide is the standard for making suds cakes. Many a Kenmore has struggled to spin because of the suds.

Even TideHE can suds if you put too much.

52 loads out of 200 oz is 3.8 ounces. That is not very concentrated compared to the amount to use of the regular formula. Someone needs to do a side-by-side comparison. I bet this is a marketing slight-of-hand...

Oh, those wicked P & G corporatists...

Incidentally, our Wal-Mart (Secaucus, NJ) had only Dynamo 2X (the green bottle) last week. Since our store is the only Wal-Mart reasonably close to Manhattan, we usually get a lot of the new stuff that's being test marketed first, so how they push the new concentrates should be interesting.

Sometimes, the concentrated products flop, sometimes not. Years ago (it was definitely around the end of the whole punk era), they introduced "Triple Concentrated Downy". I liked it, but it didn't go over well.

Then, in the early nineties, the "Ultra" powders were brought out (I really liked the early Fab Ultra powder)...that fared better, but I believe it was because they whisked (no pun intended) all of the older traditional powders away, and regular powder users hadn't much of a choice, but to adapt.

When the first P&G liquids were introduced, sometime around the intro of Downy TC, there were three notable differences to the formulas that we now have:

1)The caps were not as large;

2) The fragrances were IMHO much more pleasant:

3) They were "low suds for easy rinsing"...

...so this company knew full well that low suds was the way to go, even before people began purchasing front loaders...

There actually was a lemon-scented Dash liquid and powder, for a number of years!

The Jugs of Tide 2x that I had seen were 100oz jugs, but they stated that you could get 52 loads from them and that they equaled a 200oz jug. They were priced the same as a 200oz jug. My whole thought on this was that, like Jasonl stated, you could use less and like some of us fl people have been doing was to use half of the recommend amount and still get clean clothes. SO...........if P&G has known this for sometime, have they just figured out a way to charge more for the same product. As I stated in my first post to this thread, when I opened the bottle, smelled the same, looked the same when poured into the cap. It didn't look any thicker or different in anyway.

Here is whats going on

I called and talked with my P & G rep this am(he hates me to call him on Saturday ) I love too, Anyway he tells me that the Tide 2x is the same as the new Pro Line they have introduced for Commerical use, Which I have tried and found NO difference in it and regular Tide.....The container tells us useage rates , Which are less than with Regular Tide. But pricing is more. The whole thing is nothing more than another P & G make more money ad scam to make Mr and Mrs Public think they are getting something they are not ! P& G is Famous for this type thing. I am also told they are getting ready to do the same with Downey as it "Goes commerical" too.. It never ceases to amaze me how these companys that have a good product will milk the public to death every way they can. However on this one I AM NOT AMUSED!

According to an article on happi, P&G is testing the Tide 2x formulas this month (the article said this was being done in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, but, evidently, other members here have found these products in their stores).

They aim to replace ALL existing liquid formulas (Gain, Era, Cheer, Dreft, the works) in an 18-month time frame.

Thats how P&G makes so much money is rename stuff 2x and double strength ans so on when it is all really the same thing. They are MASTERS of this. A color change here a fragrance there .. My P &G rep tells me that Gain Era and Cheer are all really the same basic formula as tide but they have different colors and fragrances added to make them different apperaing. They have always been underhanded devils.

Tide 2X arrived at Kroger. I had to laugh at the pregnant bottle shape.

Maybe they found that with the current concentration of Tide -- or the overuse of the stuff due to the size of their measuring cap -- causes fabric damage (those pesky little pin holes that appear in cotton fabrics). So they come up with this marketing skeme making people think they are getting more product for more money when in reality there is no change.

Man, I'm glad we are all smarter than that!

P&G makes good products, but I never liked them. Go Unilever!

It's my understanding that P&G has some kind of deal with Ecolab for the production of their Pro-Line and that those formulas are not the same as those for the retail consumer market. From Sudsman's comments, I guess that is not true? What I find shocking is that the P&G Pro-Line includes a Clorox product!

Peter

P& G and Ecolab hate each other.. Like cats and dogs.. Its funny this should come now as my p&g rep just left about 20 min ago. He tells me that begin in 2007 P& G and Ecolab are fixin to have a all out war for the commerical business. P& G is offering any rep a 500.00 bonus for each commerical laundry or warewashing account they can sign for a 3year contract away from Ecolab. The "Agreement" stipulates that you must use ONLY P & G products in your facility in exchnge you will receive "perferred customer Pricing" he said will be around 30% less. Let the games begin boys ! I have also noticed that they are useing clorox in the commerical line and ask if they now own clorox he would not answer ... If you look on any clorox product now it says mfg for clorox not made by clorox .. I really think if the truth be known P & G now owns clorox....

Peter-

I just wish Unilever offered a dishwasher detergent I liked.

Right now I am using a store brand (TopCrest) with enzymes.

I no longer feel much loyalty to P&G. For a long time I thought "Buy Ohio." However, they've sold off some of my favourites, Jif, Crisco, Prell, Coast, plus I have seen that other products in the category work just as well, and cost the same or often less.....

I know... Unilever discontinued Dove dw liquid and sold off Sunlight to Pheonix. Therefore, I roll with Electrosol.

I know that the Clorox 2 products are made by Huish for Clorox, but I think Clorox still makes LCB exclusively. I don't know about any of their other cleaner products. I wonder if the Pro-Line Clorox is straight LCB or someother combination of bleach-like products...?

Tide 2x has now arrived at my local Target, and I have a coupon, so I'm tempted to try it.

I'd probably choose between the regular and the HE liquid (I would be using it in a Whirlpool TL).

Earlier in the thread, Peter has mentioned that this product can cause fabric damage.

Which formula would tend to do more damage to fabrics, or more fading of colors: the regular liquid Tide formula, or the Tide HE liquid?

(I've tried both Coldwater Glacial and Fresh liquids and they don't perform well in my water.)
